engine swap taking ages
Discussion
This is getting a little silly now.
Any half decent garage would have advised they were having to replace the clutch and flywheel and given you the option. Its not your problem that he is out of pocket.
If its one of those cars that is running a dual mass fly wheel and needs to be replaced when the clutch is replaced, then I am not sure how good a recon unit is. Also the cluctch on my Saab has a dual mass fly wheel and that is about £500 from GSF or similar, so £900 sounds a bit much.
Its good to see that the garage is welcoming any inspection though.
I'm hoping that the OP has learned a painful lesson from this process.

Getting bored now OP....man the fk up go and get your car, if its fixed pay, if it isn't don't pay....if you are threatened deck the tt or call the police...if you were this indecisive when they met you no wonder you are getting walked all over!!
He's not posting here for your entertainment. It's a pretty sticky situation, I wonder how many of the 'march down there with some heavy units' crew would actually do it?MSTRBKR said:

Total = 23 minutes. Even if you divide that in half because you think I'm exaggerating it is still 11 or 12 minutes.
In a previous job, I sold and fitted wheel and tyre packages. If I'd taken 23 minutes to fit one wheel, I'd have been sacked!By 23 minutes, I should have been on the final wheel - if not pulling the car back off the ramps. And that's aftermarket ones with fiddly spigot rings and weights measured in the tonnes range.
If I was a garage owner and it takes my mechanic 5+ minutes to find the right socket (being that most are 17, 19 or 21mm) then I'd seriously have to consider if they were right for the job!

Box wrench has all of them, so they just spin it around to find the right oneIf I was a garage owner and it takes my mechanic 5+ minutes to find the right socket (being that most are 17, 19 or 21mm) then I'd seriously have to consider if they were right for the job!

Read the whole thread, I have dealt with the same company I'm not Conan the barbarian....I simply and politely stated my case got my car and got the fk out of the workshop....if delivery of OP's car was delayed by the delivery driver falling off his motorbike..it follows that his car is sitting ready for collection...that was last Saturday...WTF....go get your bloody car....it is fixed and has a replacement engine or its not?!?...but while the whole world is whittling about what could possibly be going wrong....the guy that needs to hand over the money...really needs to get off his arse and go and find out where things stand!!!
I've read the whole thread and the OP said he can't get the time off work to go and collect the car midweek. I also know (through reading the thread!) that he is hours away from the garage making it impossible to go down before or after work."Read the whole thread". Right back at ya.

seriously though, if you're family car had spent 5weeks+ 200miles away, with reported cowboys, would you not do whatever it took to "sort" a day off work........... "ooh, sorry Ive got a dose of the sts, wont be in work today" and get your arse down there?
Probably, depending on the job. However, risk of losing a job for pulling a sicky outweighs the risk of losing a car doesn't it?MSTRBKR said:

Depends. OP has already stated it's family vehicle, needed it for kids etc........... So surely, a quiet word with boss is doable. Even if it meant working a night shift or something to catch up.Or send a family member down.
My point was, there's ways and means

I can't think anyone's boss is that much of a git not to grant a day's annual leave when something like this needs resolving, they'll know is probably stressing out their employee greatly and as such that employee is not going to be doing their best work. The sooner it's resolved, the better for all concerned.

You'd hope so but management don't offer follow logic like that. I assumed the OP had asked for leave as he said he couldn't get any. pinchmeimdreamin said:

Read the whole thread,
I have read the whole thread, Please point out where I missed that you marched down there with a bunch of rugby playing /ex military/ goatee sporting mates ?I'm simply suggesting that the OP, talks to his boss, asks for the day off and then goes and collects his car. I know its possibly making him feel uncomfortable, and that he doesn't really fancy making a bit of fuss. It does however strike me that within reasonable boundaries this guy would benefit from "Manning the fk up"
