The ask an MOT tester thread
Discussion
OT but might be of use to some? Just witnessed this same failure on a manouvering Suzuki of a similar year.

Remember Datsun/Nissan recalling a range of 70's models for similar reasons.

So it's not something that I need to do but I was watching a video of m539 replacing the projectors in a set of lights as the existing ones had degraded
And was then looking at kits to do it and read the below
"These products are not ECE or DOT/FMVSS108 approved and must not be used on public roads in any exterior application. Use on public roads will invalidate both the operating license and insurance coverage."
So I know your not allowed to use hid/led kits in halogen reflectors any more by lawbut are you actually not able to replace/update the projector in a set of lights that was already actually a hid lighting device? As you are allowed to upgrade the light from halogen/led if there is a factory option of it and you retrofit self leveling and headlight washers.
Is the only option swapping the entire unit or potentially being able to swap the projector for the specific part that honestly never seem to be available from the oe? Is re-silvering allowed?

I had this issue with my 02 Porsche 996.2 as the fitted halogen bulbs were totally useless due to the projector \ reflectors chrome plating having blistered and tarnished. My choices were buy second-hand units on eBay for around £800-1000 (would they be any better?), new OEM for £3000 each or fit replacement "retrofitlabs" HID projector. I fitted the replacement projectors and the HID kit. Come the MOT it failed on the headlights. And was then looking at kits to do it and read the below

I went to the MOT station and argued with the chap who done the MOT that the headlight unit (that is the key to the argument) was not specifically a "halogen" headlight units which is the wording of the MOT regulation 4.1.4 (you cannot fit "Xenon" bulbs in a Halogen Headlight unit).
The 996.2 headlight units are identical for Litronic (Xenon) and Halogen (apart from the projector and control gear) so fitting a new projector into the headlight is OK.
4.1.section states Headlight washing (which I don't have) must work (only applicable for vehicle manufacturer >2009, so not applicable) and self levelling (which I don't have) MAY BE FITTED (so not applicable).
New MOT acquired with the garages apology.

Sorry if this has been asked before.
Does the seatbelt have to retract with no helping hand?
My belt locks if you yank it but doesn't retract unless you help it slightly.
Replacement ones are cheap so it's not a biggy if I need to buy another.
Thanks
If it retracts okay with some help it will be fine.Does the seatbelt have to retract with no helping hand?

Restoration show reckoned that can be cured by cleaning the belt ? Presume using upholstery cleaner.Does the seatbelt have to retract with no helping hand?

Would you mind giving some advice on brake pad warning lights? Mine is showing on the dash of my 1995 5 series - the pads are fine I think it's a broken sensor. At this age is this a failure or an advise?
Twist the wires together and the light will go out. I’ve only ever been advised on it though.A question if I may,
I have an intermittent eps problem, it only manifests when 'dry steering' the handwheel feels gritty,
rough and heavy, but still assisted (like the motor momentarily cutting out, or a road wheel was stuck in a gravel rut) Turning from lock to lock clears the fault and normal feeling resumes. No loose or worn steering components, springs, bearings all okay, no warning lights.
I doubt it'd trigger the gritty feel on steering plates. As the car steers and drives OK would it fail?
