Supercars have a different brief, though.

Despite our long debates over the servicing intervals, apparently Alfa have since confirmed it is every 12500 miles now.

That sounds much more sensible! 4500 would have been a serious sticking point for a lot of people, I think.

Well the alfa garages had a briefing from Alfa UK earlier this week, and they were told 4,500.

Maybe the first service at 4,500?

That's was my guess. Sounds like crossed wires somewhere and a 4500 first service wouldn't be unusual.

The contract says "every 4,500 miles" apparently. I guess they might change it for later contracts.

The cost of the warranty to cover the 997's risk of bore scoring etc will be higher for you than 4500-mile servicing on the Alfa. biggrin

I don't think it's the cost of the servicing that bothers people. It's more the inconvenience.

Just get the Alfa. It will be WAY cooler, more reliable and cheaper to own than a carrera.

Exactly. If i wanted to take a car to the garage for a service every 12 weeks i would have bought a GT-R

Dont care too much about the cost, i doubt it will be as bad as an M car anyway

Does top grade synthetic go crap at 4500 miles? i don't think so. My Esprit has a service interval of 6000 and thats got 6.5 litres of the stuff in it, plus it gets thoroughly thrashed.
If its only for the service stamp for resale value then I think its pointless.

Looks like Clarkson has got hold of one.

Yeah the dealer mentioned a forthcoming top gear appearance. had hoped it would be after i'd got in the queue and zillions of other people decide they want one.

Still trying to find out about the service interval

Personally, I bet Alfa were thinking 4.5k but I suspect they have had a change of heart and decided on the 12.5k as per the Autocar note.

It seems odd for Autocar to say they have had it confirmed by Alfa if this is not true, the dealer briefing is likely more out of date...typical Alfa!

If that does turn out to be the case, it makes you wonder how much of service schedules is engineering driven and how much marketing.

Yup, that's their style. Makes one wonder if the cam belt change interval is going to be halved again at some point wink. Lovely, lovely car though.
