Was it just me or did Ron Dennis come over like he was either giving evidence at a coroners court of a funeral oration. With that amount of verbal dynamism he could make anything sound boring

Have these guys - who spend so much on other things - spent no money on voice coaching and presentation skills?

Ron especially and Martin Whitmarsh a bit could do a lot better - perhaps I'd better email them....

What evidence have you for this claim ?

All I can say is that i work in electronics,
And what electronics on the car are made in China?

@CarDealerEd - Ron Dennis: There are two more cars already in development. This is not a one stop shop.

biggrin
Yep, one which will be entry level hopefully under £65K and one which will be the successor to the F1.
I knew that was what they were planning but to hear they are already in development is exciting.

Looking forward to the hypercar which will hopefully be fully petrol powered smile

Hmmm I missed the first 40 mins or so. Is there anyway I can catch that bit or anyone know where videos of the launch are popping up?

Most of the comments (me included) were knocking the presentation and the way it was handled. It was a bit mickey mouse, to be fair, and I would have expected more from a long established company with plenty of experience.
People that are technically excellent don't necessarily make good public speakers, I'd still rather hear from those on the launch today than have added 'spin' by some marketing tt for the labour fkwit generation.

I just wish they'd allowed general questions to all those that spoke, could have been fun.

BUT they were all reading from an obviously over-marketing-involved script. I didn't hear much 'clever' stuff from these people who obviously know quite a lot about cars etc.

They are launching a brand new company to a worldwide press audience - it would be pretty silly to not have a marketing-led script don't you think? Are people expecting them to just say 'here it is' and then buy high end products from them?!

Yes they were pretty boring to listen to but they are not public speakers on the whole and what really matters is the car itself and the companies ethos, both of which were covered well in the presentation IMO.

Imagine attending these types of launches for something like a Hyundai i10 or A.N Other Kia - now THAT would be boring smile

The original F1 weighed 1050kg.

It cost over £600k.
A fact that people who continue to compare often forget. They are a class apart from each other
The kerb weight of the f1 was slightly more than 1050kg. 1140kg is often quoted, but a lot of people dont believe that, especially when you consider a F40 weighs 1100kg, and a more basic pared supercar than F40 you will not find.

Have to say, I wasn't (like so many) a huge fan of the looks at first, but I'm really starting to warm to the thing.

I guess P13 will probably be more like £80-90k unfortunately. We'll see.

The cheaper car will be more like P10 or P11 as the 12 is McLaren's benchmarking code for it's cars performance indicator on their internal scale....think "evoness" if you like. The F1 cars are MP4-24. The F1 replacement will therefore be greater than 12 but less than 24.

There you go, you learn something new everyday...

Actually, the 24 in MP4-24 is just the model designation. The MP4-23 was the 2008 F1 car, MP4-22 2007 etc, for example. It goes right back to the original MP4/1 F1 car of the early 80s.

The suffix is nothing to do with it's 'evoness'.

You learn something new every day! wink

You weren't listening that closely then. Anthony Sheriff spoke at length on some of the more technical aspects of the design, particularly about the carbon tub.

hehe

You'd expect the F1 cars to have ever increasing numbers as development or the introduction of new F1 cars continues. I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that the roadcars will fit into this scale...at least that's what I read on the interweb once.

Fair enough. I should say though that my source isn't the interweb, or any journalist.

P11 - what we now know as MP4-12C
P12 - Hypercar
P13 - "911 competitor"

We could have a gentleman's wager if you like wink
