I suspect I've just breached the new T&Cs that I've signed-up to. Soz.
Damn.

If I'd known how much it'd grate I'd have mentioned it earlier! biggrin

Re T&C changes, Amateur sluicing (or whatever it is - something to do with stalking people IIRC) has a subject in "Website Feedback" ....

This e32 730 looks okay in the admittedly iffy pictures https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/bmw-730i-v8-auto-e32...

Love that. Decent MOT history too. Really, really like that and I don't care it's 'only' a 3.0 V8.

Used to like gazing at these as a kid outside Sytner Nottingham when they were new.
Its sooo clean! And its also a pretty low asking price too IMO. If I didnt already have an e38, I would be looking at this over the weekend!!!

I really want to think that's the sort of car which despite a lacking advert is clean, original and has a huge history file, decent rubber and has been cared for.

Hmmm thinking of doing something rash with a barge. I was enquiring over a very gold LS430, and the old chap mentioned that he was also selling a Mk4 LS400 in great condition but has run out of MOT as it had airbag light on. He sent me pics of said car which looks marvellous - perfect colour (grey/ purple), unmarked black leather interior, only 77k, and it even has uncorroded alloys - a Lexus first! Chap is ex chauffeur and has land - car runs and drives.

I think he understands that it is only worth mid hundreds and isn't even advertised yet. But an airbag light is probably a new ECU (PITA but ok) but could be much more - and the MOT ran out in 2013! Albeit before that it had never failed an MOT - or had advisories.

Am I mad to even consider this?

what's the worst that could happen? Sell it for what you paid for it?

Sir, I like your approach!

PS re your username - do you remember Steve Cropley's turbo 2cv from Car magazine back in the 80's?

I do. "Escargot Flambe" IIRC. Golf GTI on the cover. Lovely little snippet in the article about him catching an XR2 napping and it took the driver 8 miles or so to get past. If only I'd remembered my school studies with such clarity.

Edit- beat me to it!

Lexus is a no-risk punt. They're an easy DIY to work on, Lexus main dealers are still happy to assist even with old smokers so diagnostics no problem, the US has a great DIY online presence, and cars are being broken left right and centre for the bits required. Probably just a sensor or clock spring.

I agree; what an exciting project. Could be an easy fix. Go for it.

As you should. I bet it costs less than £200 to MOT.

That's one to get running and drive for 1,000 miles to 'test' and assess.

Long time lurker here, and have joined the barge club the other week with picking up a nice Mk3 Lexus LS400 with 117k on the clock, was this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-/28233475617...

Was well worth the £1400 notes as not so many good MK3's around anymore.

Anyway as it goes once you have a barge you seem to keep the spirit alive by looking at other barges all of the time, as I am a big Lexus fan I came across the below which seems a lot of bang for your proverbial buck. Considering what this would have cost new and probably worth a punt for some exec/Don Johnson motoring for a couple of years

Most certainly will once it has been valeted/detailed and had the interior sorted next week :-)

If a PH-ish barger were to look heaven-ward for the single two golden characteristics to ease his furrowed-buyers-brow, that's what the good Lord would deliver.

What are your first impressions? I am very tempted to get one as a cheap continent destroyer. Old mercs are fine but when you have yet another 800+ mile weekend to do in miserable weather, a more isolating car would be welcome to me!
