I've driven a 30hp Beetle with non synchro gearbox and cable brakes from Wieden in Germany (near Czech border) back to the UK. And even I'm thinking you'd be mad to drive a 500 back from Italy laugh

I think James May did that. Well until it broke down that is.

Saying that my dad used to travel to Italy every year in a classic mini (before most of the motorways were built)
It happened in an episode of wheeler dealers, with fat Mike Brewer at the wheel. I think he made it from Italy to the South of France. Then bought a new 'uprated' engine once the car had been recovered to the UK, to disguise the fact he'd bought a pup.

Well done Woody!

Bit more Saab love...

1987 900 Aero - a bit over budget, and perhaps not as cool as that grey one, but I think they do look good in red...

2001 9-3 Aero

1997 9000 Aero

2004 9-5 Aero

And another turbocharged Swede to finish...

Out of interest I thought I would see what Woody's 470 would buy over here. The best I can find is this Outback, which is perhaps not as bad as I thought things would be. Having said that, there is nothing I'd want to buy for less than $1000...

I mean, its either that Outback, or this LPG 4.0-litre ex-taxi Falcon with a mere 809,000kms on the clock...

As opposed to 'Thin' Mike Brewer?

Now now, girls. No need to be unkind.

I think you need to be svelte to drive an original 500, when Mike got in he looked like he was wearing it.

I think this looks like quite a lot of fun for £850.

Is that not very, very cheap for one of those?
It's cheap especially if it's as nice as it looks, but a manual diesel would be the desirable option.

Help! My first car was a Tipo 116 Giulietta; I can remember the number plate - A825 CPL - even though I bought it in 1988. This looks lovely but I've nothing to do with it and have too many old cars already. How much is storage these days? Damn and blast the internet.

I've seen that MX5 'Sprint' on the road and it looks rather good actually.

I was just quickly scrolling past and thought it was an Elan at first banghead.

Imitation is the greatest ...

Same here - I did a double take thinking 'an Elan for less than £5k'!!
