RE: Mucking about in the snow
Discussion
Landy's stop working when drifts get beyond 4 - 5ft. had to abandon mine last half mile from home. Will post some pics in the morning of the local area. Wind has caused carnage..6ft drifts infilling roads between stone walls. It was like the final scene in the shining trying to wade home!!

Here'a our effort from yesterday - R32 sliding around filmed from from the air with a quadcopter. Great fun and much warmer than sledging

I presume BFG AT2's or General Gabber AT2's are neither summer, nor winter, just a 'where ever, whenever' kind of tyre as we have both on our disco's and Defenders. Bloody well unstoppable, apart from when the drifts get beyond 4 foot high - need a run up then!
Ditto!got the BFG A/T2 and they are fantastic, never been stuck anywhere, decent in the wet too.
Bring on the snow!
Three quick tales :
Easter 1992 Skoda 130 rapid Goose fair Park and ride showing the Nova boys that handbrake turnes are nothing compared to rear engine rwd figures of 8. Gearbox did blow up a week later mind....
As people have already mentioned in earlier posts messing about in carparks is how to learn what happens when grip turns to slip. Probably get arrested now... Am I right that handbrake turns in snow are part of the driving test in Sweden?
Mazda MX5 on a test drive - rear screen split as too cold - snowballs thrown at me in it... Long conversation about me buying it with the sales manager who couldn't comprehend me putting the roof down when it was -2. Asked what they would have done if I'd stuffed it ? Shame they didn't have my name and address...
Smug Audi A4 TDI Sportline on A37 out of Bristol Vs slightly scabby Honda Stream on Verdestein Snowtrac 3's. Left for dead uphill.
Sorry no photo's too busy messing !

It's gone a bit quiet on the "2,000kg with marginally better breaking traction will stop faster than 1,000kg in the same conditions if it's 4wd" debate.
Surely the answer is, if it's 10 times slippier for walking on, then allow 10 times the usual breaking distance? Then double it, for safety.
I AM intrigued by the idea that 4wd s need half the breaking distance of a 2wd. If that's true in the snow, that it'd be true on dry, sticky tarmac, the formulae for coefficient of friction not changing, and all that). Oh well... I'm sure heightswitch knows best. Just hope I'm not in his/her way (ditto for your delivery driver).
