i asked a vette fanboy/groupie this same question, and in a nutshell, this was his response.. "because 505hp, 7:19 nurburgring, $100k"
It should have been "because never break down, fix it anywhere, parts are cheap" and of course "because beat on it for 300k miles before go boom".

Perceived quality does not necessarily equal actual quality.
To be fair, he shouldn't be implying the $100K, 505bhp ZO6 can match the 7'19" time of the much more expensive, 640bhp ZR1.
Aren't you being a little pedantic? You can get a ZR1 for $105k. Hardly 'much more expensive'.
I just bought an 11k mile one for $71k at the auction smile. That's under £50k I do believe...... It's a 2011 with 9k miles.

The C6 Z06 started at a little under $78,000 not $100,000.

I was merely quoting DocJock. I wasn't going to research the original selling price of every Corvette variant to prove a point.

Nope, I make it £62,172 including our taxes but still not including shipping and sva work etc.

That's a crap exchange rate...What ever happened to the economy.
Mind you, here in China, foreign cars are damn expensive. Standard cars like a new basic Audi A4 is £47,000. A new VW Passat is around £30,000. A Merc S600 is around £220,000. Range Rover sport-£150,000 Porsche Panamera-£270,000 A Lamborghini Gallardo is around £420,000.....and these cars are around. VW's and Mercs EVERYWHERE! Up until a couple of years ago, they were still selling the old 80's VW Jetta new here too.

It's just the Z06 price, not every variant and I was merely adding the actual price to clear things up.

It's the tax that's killing it, not just the poor exchange rate. Don't forget it's cost of car + shipping plus 10% duty and then to that total you have to add the whopping 20% VAT. I didn't even add shipping to the figure I worked out.

I wasn't figuring taxes into it wink

Still, the car snickered at $105k if memory serves so a 70% residual after 2 years isn't too bad.
