Thank you so much for your quick reply. Getting hold of the ferofix is really difficult with it being so new. I did go to a halfords and they said it was a web exclusive but that if it was isofix then it should fix all isofix cars, is that not necessarily true?

I believe both britax and maxi cosi websites say that they are compatible but I can only get hold of the ferofix online. I am really nervous about her being in the next stage car seat for some reason as she was only 3 last week but I know her weight means she needs it. I'm driving myself crazy.

There are lots of good reviews for the britax but I keep wondering if the maxi cosi with it being new will have something better added or should I leave it until it has been which tested??

Honestly I'm probably getting myself worked up over nothing!

Thank you for taking the time to help

Julie
It's perfectly understandable that you are nervous about buying the "right" seat etc, It's natural.
The child seat should come with a "vehicle list" & this will tell you wether or not that specific seat has been approved in your vehicle because it's not always true that if a car has "isofix latches" you can use any isofix seat, it must be approved. Have a look here, they will tell you if these seats in question are compatible with your car.

I've ordered the maxi cosi ferofix. Something just kept pulling me back to it, it might just be because I had the cabriofix and then the priori xp.

Thank you for your help

Not a problem at all & good luck with it all, you have picked a good seat.

I can understand why parents stick with the brand they know, this makes perfect sense.

Interested in your view on the ferofix, it carries a massive premium compared to the other contenders in that class. The seats obviously well made but is there anything other than brand to justify the premium?

In all honesty, no. We have found that the most expensive child seats may not be the "safest"
ok, there maybe some nice features that other brands do not offer but in terms of safety, the answer is no! It's perfectly safe & nothing wronf with the seat at all, but there are others out there just as good for less money.

boobles thank you for all the info, very good of someone to offer their professional opinion for free.

I have also been looking at the Maxicosi Fero or Rodi Airprotect, how to they perform against their competitors?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, really appreciate the advice. Can i ask what you'd recommend for a group 2/3 seat, ideally isofix? To go into a crv and occasionally a 3 series. Thanks for the help.

Hi & thank you for the kind words.

Obviously I have to be careful in what I say but this website can give you some important information when it comes to safety etc.

It's really difficult for me to single out any one seat due to so many out there to fit into your car. You can always try these two sites as both offer fantastic products. Just type in your make of car & they will bring up anything that will fit.

I'm really pleased with the ferofix, it is a sturdy comfortable seat. I got it from boots for £150 and £18 worth of advantage points so technically the seat was £132. I think this is enough to pay though and the £175 price tag seems excessive

Hi Boobles, was pointed in your direction from a SE member so hoping you can help me on choosing a Group 1 car seat for my little one!

Was looking at the Concord Transformer T Pro with its Impact Cushion. It is German built so has to go through side impact protection tests i believe?. However can't find much info on it. I see the Kiddy Energy Pro is similar in design with the Impact Shield.

Suppose my question is, is the impact cushion a good idea over the harness?

Car is a E90 BMW touring with Isofix.

Cheers,
Mike (long time lucker lol)

Hi,

The impact shield does pass the current R44-04 standard, but thats as far as it goes. The R44 tests are the basic requirement & all thats measured is chest accelerations & they monitor where the head goes. We have seen with certain shield products that as soon as you start to measure other accelerations such as neck forces & a few more, the shield system can fall short compared to products with harnesses. In short, yes the shield system does pass the minimum requirement but most harnessed seat's go behond that....

Hi

Looking for a new seat for our (soon to be) 4 year old.

We like the look of the Britax KidFix and the Kid Plus. It seems the only difference is that the KidFix has IsoFix and the Plus does not. Unfortunately the Britax website does not have any comparison functionality, so we may be wrong.

One of our cars has IsoFix and the other does not. It seems we could still use the KidFix on both, would would appreciate clarification on this as again the website is unclear.

Thanks.

Im looking to take my son in the passenger seat of the car (Porsche 911 GT3), does anyone else have any experience of taking their kids in the front.

I understand I need to deactivate the passenger side airbag on my car in order to take my son in his car seat, but not sure what the options are.

Porsche will fit a key activated switch but it costs c£450!!!
i see some companies sell a seatbelt like device:

has anyone else had this done, or know what options are available?

Tks

Depends if your son is in a rear or front facing car seat. If it's rear facing, airbag must be deactivated (danger of death). If it's front facing, you'll be OK as long as you but the car's seat in its most rearwards position.

The car has a waring on the dash saying, that for child seats the air bag MUST be deactivated.

A wee bit more modest (!!) but we often carry our 9 month old baby in the front of our Defender - although it has no airbags anyway (!!!). We occasionally take her in the front of the BM too - we just turn off the airbag. It's a rear facing Maxi Cosi cabriofix - does ISOFIX and seal belt fitting. Cannot recommend it enough for sub one year olds.

That relates to rear-facing child seats.
