How did you get the 1.8 up to 210, bottom end, cams and Jenvey throttle bodies?

Bet that's so much fun, and screamer!
210HP is standard R400, porting, cams, throttle bodies. The perfect road power IMHO. Mind you after my drive in the 310HP supercharged one today I might have to re-think things......;)

A man with exquisite taste! My fleet comprises a 130i (similar creamy straight-6) and a 210bhp 1.8 K-series Caterham.

Aye, lots of fun!

It's an R300 with roller-barrel throttle bodies, plus:
- Big ported head
- Colisbro long valve guides
- 285 cams
- Solid followers
- Double value springs & steel caps
- Upgraded motorsport main bearings
- Omega forged pistons
- Balanced rods & crank
- R500 lightweight flywheel

So pretty much R400 spec, all done by previous owner. I chuffing love it beer

I've been a passenger in the 620R, and it feels like it's going to take off, a complete monster!

I have some Omega forged pistons, forged con rods and a brand new VVC head, waiting to be ported and polished on our little MG. Doubt it'll make any more than 180bhp though, but enough for the car.

The K-Series really is a great little engine, much maligned, I think....

OT but I went to buy my new Caterham today, I drove (in order)

R500 Quaife, 420R manual, 620R. The 620 was pretty civilised due to the torque, the R500 with the quaife constantly screamed I want to be on a track. 420, lovely, like wearing a pair of shoes that you've always worn, but the nagging doubt if, or if not to tune it for a bit more. I really enjoyed the 620, the issue on the road would be keeping my licence.

Today was pretty decent smile

The VVC can be pretty deeply ported. No need for steel rods unless you're over 190HP/8500 rpm, stock stuff is pretty robust. I went for Arrow rods on my tuned VHPD for safety but it was belt and braces. That engine ran 230+HP with the stock bottom end using 2180/1444 and 42mm Jenveys. My advice is go for a big valve head and a pair of 1444's if you can, gives a good uplift in torque and makes for a really good road engine.

Yee, but it's linked to the F20A and B found in more prosaic Accords of the era. And if I'd argue that if you only experience one VTEC engine, make it the B18C5.

The more you try and throw new things into this the worse it is. None of what you have written has anythg to do with it. So now it's just the block is it smile This is sod all to do with traction, billets, money, boats, power stations or anythng else. A V8 is more rigid than an I6, produces bigger power than an I6 and is the configuration of choice because it is the best engineering platform. That's all there is to it.

You just cannot admit you don't know what you're talking about. Unless you want to back this up with facts, links to an engine or something approaching reality, not, you think, it could be, etc, etc I think you've dug enough of a hole for yourself to hide in at this point.

He does exactly this on lots of threads.

One of many "New TVR" threads he's ruined with his incessant delusions, misguided self-belief, inability to give a straight answer, or admit that he's talking ste.

Nobody has mentioned a Ford Cosworth (or are they all above £10k now).
Also very few mentions for the Jag straight six which was around for fifty years powering tanks and all sorts.......perfectly balanced wink
Coventry climax in a Ginetta, Elite or Imp, all aluminium engine that was great for tuning.
That all alloy effort in the back of a Skoda that won the 1.3 class in rallying for yonks.
Dolomite sprint engine was pretty awesome when working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyVAVdqyt-A
V6 renault turbo had a lot of F1 connections (not in reality) just success at the same time.
Vauxhall Carlton straight six 24v GSi police pursuit special.
Ferguson tractor engine that fed the world.
BMW boxer on the motorbike

The XK was produced for 43 years - close enough.

Here's my twopenneth worth - K8 V6 in my old Mazda MX3, a smooth and characterful engine that would pull from 1000rpm in any gear, but still rev to 7000.
The Mivec V6 in my Mitsubishi FTO, smooth and gutsy, but changes to an animal at 5500rpm and howls to 9000.

On another note, it was mentioned why no-one put a flat 6 in the front of a car. They did. Subaru SVX. 3.3 litre flat 6 and brilliant styling.

Legacy/Outback/Tribeca all have/had versions with the newer 3.0 and 3.6 flat-6 as well smile

There are a few Imprezas rallying with flat-6 transplants down here, lovely sound.

PD130. It's a cracker.
sounds like st but is quite a good shot of power, but is so outdated now i can't imagine someone going back to one to experience the engine and thinking thisis great, it offers nothing over modern diesels.
Total rubbish

Its far superior than a modern diesel in 1 simple way.....

No DPF

Genuinely love how st my PD130 sounds. Proper diesel, before the EU got involved.

I've driven loads of cars with that 130 PD engine.

It's entirely unremarkable. I even passed my driving test in a Skoda Fabia with that engine.
