There's been an update. Project very much being kept alive. Plans to use net zero fuels.

There's also an echo... only alive is somebody funds it.https://m.facebook.com/BLOODHOUNDSSC/

They should flog it to Rosco McGlashan in Australia for cheap and let him have a go at getting it moving. Although maybe the restriction what they are allowed to do with the EJ200 might stop it from being run by a non-UK concern.
Given the EJ200 comes with the gift of support from Rolls Royce and the RAF, I don't think it's likely to travel abroad for another company to take control.Bloodhound LSR project still alive and now aiming for first carbon zero land speed record

Speaking exclusively to Driving.co.uk at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Wing Commander Stuart Edmondson, who was head of engineering operations before being “handed the keys” to the project at the start of the year, said Bloodhound is ready and waiting for a new land speed record attempt with a one-time investment.
A further report in this week's Autocar. Apparently, it's going Green.

That was 3.5 months ago so assume still no funding. https://www.driving.co.uk/news/bloodhound-lsr-proj...

So only the fuel is synthetic and carbon zero, is the rest of the project carbon zero? How do they justify all the travel, testing etc etc
I do wish these vanity projects would stop using STEM! as an excuse to do something, oh it’s STEM!, it’s great for school they always say, but schools have lots of bigger issues to deal with at the moment and there are hundreds of better, more appropriate and real world STEM examples to get involved in.

I know of a uni student team developing a hybrid rocket (for spaaace) and another doing a cubesat - maybe LSR just isn't cool these days.I do wish these vanity projects would stop using STEM! as an excuse to do something, oh it’s STEM!, it’s great for school they always say, but schools have lots of bigger issues to deal with at the moment and there are hundreds of better, more appropriate and real world STEM examples to get involved in.
Edit - I know which would inspire mme if I was 18 again, and it wouldn't be the car.

RIP Craig Breedlove.
Seemed fitting to put it in here. First man through the 500 and 600 mph barrier and almost singlehandedly carried the USA LSR Challenge since the 50's.
Who knows without Craig to compete against, would all of the Thrust cars have been funded/built? Can't have those pesky Americans holding the record etc... may he RIP.Seemed fitting to put it in here. I grew up following LSR as closely as I could, the speed involved boggled my mind (still does), the interest from the general public in these types of records does seem to have waned, but this thread is still fascinating to someone like me who likes fast cars, rockets and jets and has done since he was a kid.
I notice an update from the bloodhound project on facebook earlier today, which says "an exciting announcement" will be made tomorrow.
What are the chances of the project coming back to life and going after the record, do you reckon? I would love this!
Or will the exciting announcement be that Derek in the engineering team has put two different brands of teabag in the teapot to create his own flavour.

I saw the same thing earlier. I’d love it to be resurrected, but I can’t see it. I reckon it will be something STEM related. What are the chances of the project coming back to life and going after the record, do you reckon? I would love this!

The Bloodhound outreach programme was a tremendous success. There’s an awful lot of very difficult STEM! in going 1000mph on land - by comparison, going 1000mph in the air, say, is pretty mainstream these days.I do wish these vanity projects would stop using STEM! as an excuse to do something, oh it’s STEM!, it’s great for school they always say, but schools have lots of bigger issues to deal with at the moment and there are hundreds of better, more appropriate and real world STEM examples to get involved in.
The problem is, there aren’t an awful lot of genuinely exciting mechanical engineering projects out there. CubeSats etc are cool, but it’s basically just sensors and logic bolted to a bus. Great for those interested in that, but not much use for creating interest in MechEng.
I'm midway through applying to do PhD which will be developing a new branch of AI to solve real world monitoring & analysis problems. (ie not generative AI)
I met the professor for an informal chat over a coffee and asked him what the likelihood was of me being accepted on to it given that I'm 47 and have spent my whole career in industry. He noted that last time they advertised for this PhD, which is limited to UK students only - they had precisely ZERO applicants - and that seems to be a bit of a trend.
Too busy trying to become a Tik Tok star these days, I reckon
