I also wonder what the investor appetite for an LSR attempt is in the current climate, the admirable STEM aspect notwithstanding. Backing something that involves a rocket engine and a honking great reheated turbofan may not be 'on message' for a lot of companies now. I think the days of public interest in the likes of Campbell in Bluebird K7 at Coniston, Thrust 2 & SSR may be behind us? I don't know. I'd love Bloodhound to be revived though.

I applied (unsuccessfully of course!) to drive SSC back in the day. A few blokes at work know 'Dead Dog' Green and reckoned he was the best man for the job when he was selected. Maybe at 61 he's decided that after surviving Tornado F3, Harrier and oversteer on the desert floor at 700mph+ he wants to stop poking the devil with a pointy stick?
The same thought crossed my mind a few years ago.

I am torn though, on the one hand it would be fantastic to see another land speed record attempt, on the other hand it would mean this beast no longer holds it.

Plan to revive Bloodhound UK land speed race car

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-673...

The UK wants another crack at the world land speed record and needs a driver for its Bloodhound supersonic car.
To be in the running, you'll need to prove you can handle travelling at more than 800mph (1,290km/h), and have a major sponsorship deal behind you.......continues

Now, let me think, who's that guy on TV who is mad enough to race in the IOM TT and will drive anything with wheels on it? Got it. Anyone got Guy Martin's telephone number?

The land speed record has always fascinated me and Thrust SSC breaking the sound barrier was incredible but is anybody really interested in the LSR now, it has been so long and this project just seems doomed to fail.

If he had £millions to burn he'd be the perfect man for the job.
The driving bit isn't as critical as the money bit -- money is the main thing that stops this project because enough of it can solve for everything else.

I know he's got a few quid behind him, but to drop 12 million of his majesty's finest pounds?

Sounds like they need to massage the ego of some billionaire thrill seeker and persuade them to finance the whole thing. £12m is nothing to them.

From the BBC article:

"Its monopropellant rocket would use high test peroxide which decomposes into a hot mix of steam and oxygen to provide thrust. But it needs first to be forced over a catalyst and that requires a pump driven by a separate engine. An electric solution will be sought for this, making Bloodhound a hybrid vehicle."

The banal notion that hybrid means '+electric motor' when this vehicle already has two main propulsion methods: a jet engine and a rocket. Now that's some hybrid!

Yea, she ran pretty darn fast with that buggy. But what's the car thing behind her doing?

A win/win situation regardless of the outcome.

As a wild aside, SpaceX already have a suitably sized rocket in the SuperDraco.

I could see them re-engineering the engine system to make it 100% rocket. It might be a bit "well I wouldn't start from here", but the overall car design seems to have been proven fundamentally good.
That's simply not going to happen, period

The Green credentials" were the previous attempt at getting funding......how did that go. They are all over the place with their marketing/publicity, apparently jumping on whatever bandwagon will pay, it's a pure vanity exercise now.

Someone needs to pitch a land speed record documentary series to Netflix or Prime. £12m over a series is naff all for them...

Lets be honest here, it is not £12m, by the time you have finished I suspect you will have needed double that
