This guys arguing over £16, what's he going to be like when he needs any warranty work, or repairs and servicing done.
As you like. Silly girl misjudged my age, gave me the 'speaking to a manager' crap, and lost the sale over less money than I had in my wallet.

The dealer closer to home did the same calculation, said "Call it £16k" and we shook hands. He sourced the car, I paid him, and I took it there for servicing for three years.

I don't pay thousands for my carrots. Did you script the scenario adverts for the AV 'Yes' campaign?

But yet your car is for sale; ergo you obviously want/need to sell it.

I can't help but think (notwithstanding lack of info you have provided) that you are being a tad unreasonable in your appraisal of the potential buyers. After all, if your car really was that good and really was worth what you are asking, then it is reasonable to assume that a buyer might well pay the extra £200 to get the perfect car. Besides, you've explained that two people have bothered their respective arses to view your car; it's not like the general public is bettering down your door is it?

Not really.

There's plenty of 'have I priced this right?' threads.

It seems to me that you are being a bit 'up yourself' over this.

Most people put a car up for sale because they want to sell it. Anything that can be considered a 'major' purchase is usually subject to an offer or haggling if you prefer.

Either you want to sell the car or you don't. If you want to sell it, then be prepared for offers - which purchasers will deem to be fair, to be made. Don't come on here expecting the vast majority to side with you.

If you make it clear, politely to any potential purchaser that you will not haggle and the ticket price is the price no matter what, expect your viewings to drop.

Why not at least tell us what you are selling? Is it a case you need a secret handshake before you will divulge anything? biggrin
no secret hand shakebiggrin Its just that when I do a search on here, Ebay and Autotrader only 5 - 6 of this particular car are for sale at the moment, and 3 of those are restoration jobs... It would be easy to see which one it was...

and then worms, tin, open! yikes

No offers is fair enough. However you could have said something alng the lines of "I'll tell you what - I've advertised for no offers and you clearly want the car. I can't drop from the asking price as I've told you but I will take you to the petrol station and let you have a full tank of fuel to get you home..." or something to make them think they're getting something extra. I think if you have a give and take attitude (maybe you have) then there's more chance securing a sale.

Additionally, accept a lower price but keep the tax and/or the stereo. More often than not, they'll want to buy it off you anyway!

- But as you've quite rightly said, you have put "No offers" so I can understand your reluctance to move!

Fair enough, is it particularly rare/desirable then?

If so, it's slightly different to selling a 2008 Renault Megane Scenic.

Nothing annoys me more than people trying to haggle money off the asking price BEFORE they have even seen the car and those who feel they need a discount in order to cover their transport costs.

But its simple. I know what I want for it, I am clear in the advert, no offers, I tell people before they come that I am not prepared to haggle...

yet people are still so arrogant to turn up and expect me to drop my price!

If Im not prepared to pay full asking price then I wont bother going to see a car, will negotiate if there are issues that werent mentioned in the advet though.
I dont understand those (especially buyers travelling a fair way) who go to see a car with no intention of meeting the asking price at all, time wasting cheapskates.

I understand both sides of the argument here really.

Maybe you should just make it a little more clear in your advert that you really do mean no offers?

On what basis are they offering less?
I can understand if they find a few things that need doing that's not been mentioned.

I'm not entirely sure it's the viewers who are being arrogant whistle

Anyway, best of luck with the sale.

The reason people expect to pay less than the asking price is because the world is full of gits who artificially inflate the asking price to get an "offer" at the price they really want.

Stick to your guns OP, and help rid the world of all that bks

Understand your point, as a matter of interest what percentage of the sale price is the £200 drop you were offered?

Can you enlighten us what car it is?

Although to be fair when I see an advert with 'no offers' on it.. I would never haggle

I don't get the haggling thing. I list an item for sale, that's the damn price I want. When I see someone selling something, I offer them the price they want.

Doesn't this whole thread hinge around what the £200 is a percentage of???

If the car's up at £1000 then £200 is a big chunk off, whereas if it's at £5000 then not so much so.

It's amazing how little some peoples time is worth. Hence their haggling over such insignificant sums.

Your car, sell it for whatever you like or keep it.

Personally speaking I like to get a deal but if the car is as good as you say and it's priced fairly then that's a good deal surely?

I start to haggle when either the car is:-

Overpriced

or

Needs money spending on it

Whether or not the vendor accepts that is upto them and entirely their prerogative, I wouldn't dream of abusing them as a result. Just a friendly 'give me a ring if you change your mind'.
