I couldn't resist - if any one praises the interior of a new one... well it doesn't look that different from the previous (not saying it's bad, just pointing on the fact of almost identical similarity)

I've just been sick in my own face.

Oh, and the rear lights make it look like a new Golf/Polo.

I suspect it will look a little better with an M-Sport kit (like it's predecessor). I can't believe more people are't comment on this though:

Sadly, this blown 2.0-litre four-pot is the replacement for the old 130i's six-cylinder motor...
I loved my 130i and as good as this new engine is bound to be, it won't have the amazing aural characteristics of the old straight six which is what made the 130i so memorable. I do hope BMW reconsider.

Snout reminds me of this..

I remember an old joke about a crap boyband who could release a fart and still get it to No. 1

This is BMW's fart.

comparing to this original 1-series looks cuddly smile
did they suddenly remember E46 and decided to repeat it??
I agree with your first point, the new 1 series is f-ugly. However I don't get your second point about the E46 which is widely regarded as the nicest looking 3 since the E30.

I am sorry for my mistake. What I meant was E46/5

I think time has served some of the Bangle-designed cars that were slated well... boxedin

This is 'orrible though.

Heck, the current 1-series has 'challenging' looks, but in Mnonsense guise, the right colour + big wheels, I actually like it...

SWMBO drives one and I'm looking at getting a 130i...

As ugly as it is, I prefer it like this than if were as bland and lifeless as the other German marques. It'll grow on us; I saw these pictures a few days ago and it's not as bad now as I thought it was then.

When will this start affecting the prices of the current model? I'm looking to get a 130i but would prefer if someone else took the hit in residual value!

I definately think BMW are really losing the plot the past couple of years! Not liking there designs at all at the minute!
yes

I wasn't a Bangle fan, however at least those shapes were balanced and cohesive. All of the current BMW evolutions are visually bloated and clumsy in comparison.

Like most modern BMWs, hideous on the outside but lovely on the inside. Why do BMW insist on making such ugly cars, they used to be nice. Somebody in the comments said it looked like a Chinese copy of a BMW, that sums it up for me.

Just for info, the 1m coupe is based on the coupe which if PH remember the story they run a little while back was facelifted in 2011 to allow it to carry on to 2012/13 alongside the new 1 series hatch. This facelift never happened on the hatch as it was getting chopped anyway.

That's pretty challenging to look at, it might look better if the angel eyes were in better proportion?

I can't see the looks impacting sales - nothing will demonstrate brand / badge power than watching this sell. Shame as BMW have some lovely looking models at the moment - this just isn't one of them.

One positive reply on a car forum... Surely the design must have passed over some of the public eye at some point?

Focus group must have been infiltrated by Audi employees. "oh yeah, that's FANTASTIC ¬_¬".

Looks like a cat that's been pushed through a letterbox. With a firework up it's chute to aid in the startled look.

Sorry, it's not doing it for me at all. Shame, I'd just started to warm to the 'old' 1 series too hehe

never mind the looks... it's another nail in the coffin of proper motors:

"Sadly, this blown 2.0-litre four-pot is the replacement for the old 130i's six-cylinder motor"

cars are actually getting worse now, with each new generation... depressing.
