Renault Clio 3dr, 2001 vintage. Two utterly useless cut outs under the centre of the dash that anything taller than 4" wouldn't fit under, two huge caverns in the rear cards (trust the French to add somewhere to store your wine bottles).

Many a time I went through a fast food drive thru and then sat in the back to eat my meal laugh

Classic example of someone who needs a cup holder. It'd be coffee all over his head every 30 seconds otherwise.

Hired a lwb Ford Transit last year and counted 6 good-sized cupholders so my vote goes to that biggrin Two on each side, plus two that fold out of the dashboard on a tray.

Good, but almost completely defunct. Pretty sure the transit comes with a plastic bottle of coke in the windscreen as standard. Copy of The Sun optional.

My XJ Sov doesn't have a cup holder at all. I can get a centre armrest with one but it would cost 200 quid (and that's second hand) so it's not going to happen.

What are the best aftermarket ones which don't involve any drilling/damage to the car?

I saw this one and have wondered if it's any good:

Any others?

having said that, i think the cup holders in the xjr are probably the worst in existence, they have no sides and cus just dont grip properly, so maybe £45

x2 rofl Not sure a cupholder on the captain's chair would've gone down well on the flagship.

Porsche cupholders – not the best but very over-engineered.

Vivaro ones are handy...

The demister vents that keep the side windows clear also double as drink warmers in cold weather, there's a rectangular recess in the bottom of the cup holder that holds Ribena cartons and iphones perfectly.

Also, I've found that a 2l bottle of water/coke (depending on how healthy you're feeling) slots perfectly between the front seats and is held securely by the handbrake lever. Means you can keep your water cool in the summer out of the sun.
