RE: PH Carpool: Shelby Mustang GT500
Discussion
I think I saw that GT500 just before it was picked up this year at Bill Shephards.
This wins over a Nissan GTR because I see at least one if not two GTR's on my West London commute daily!
Handling concerns with a 2010 GT500?
Try this one!
My beast!

I have a 2006 GT as my daily beater and it does squeak, it does rattle but it never fails to put a smile on my face.
I'll bet you if you pull the plastic hand guard off behind the door pull and slip in a piece of sticky foam, it will stop. The other is a loose door handle if it sticks, cured by adding the nut Ford were too cheap to put on."Somewhat surprisingly, after 2000 miles Sukhdev reports that there are no squeaks and rattles at all"
Really? Have you driven a modern Ford? They are very well built and have been on top of the JD Power quality ratings in the States. Quite the turn around. For a real treat try to get your hands on the new Boss 302 Laguna Seca Motor trend took it around Laguna Seca faster than an R8 and spanked the M3...these new mustangs are very solid.

Until you drive a relatively modern American muscle car a lot of people will not understand what they are about. In the 80/90's most american so-called muscle cars were awful (were a few exceptions like the Trans Am Firehawk and Corvette ZR1).. now there is brace of great cars out there.. I own a supercharged 2001 Trans Am Ram Air (one of very few in the UK), which kicks out close to 600 BHP, yes an M3 will leave it in the bends (but I dont own a private race track so does not bother me) but I have a true muscle car capable of neck snapping acceleration and with an incredible soundtrack to match... thats what muscle cars are all about!

I think you are very right. To me even the sloppy late 80's early f-bodies were fun. Consider the roads for which you car was really designed for that BMW would be a speck in your review.Devman85 - if you'd like to drive the car in the winter, may I recommend Bridgestone Blizzaks. I have a few friends w/ Chally 392s, Camaro 6.2s and the GT500 and they all drive them through Canadian and American winters w/ Blizzaks no problem
Gorgeous car btw. Is on my shortlist for when I move back to Canada as the Camaro just isn't engaging enough imo

I have owned my 2007 Shelby GT500 for 18 months now after trading in my 2008 Roushcharged GT Mustang,Having covered 5000 miles most of those being on European Roadtrips with the Mustang club. The car runs really strong and feels much quicker than the previous Supercharged GT (which was rated at 450 bhp)to coin the old cliche, no substitute for cubic inches. Car is the stock 500 bhp which is more than enough for me and has to driven with respect. I have had a couple of hairy moments with the nose heavy handling on the twisty bits, Quite happy with the economy averageing 18 mpg US gallon (21 English) considering the power thats available. I very rarely switch of the traction control, as the car will will hang the back out without much provocation with the traction control on, To summarize:The quickest car I have ever driven needs to be driven with the utmost respect to compensate for the adequate handling, always on an adenaline high every time I take it out,

V8 Junkie I dont suppose you have shelby alcoas on the back do you? do you still own the 2000GT? still imo the best shape mustang to date!!No Alcoa,s I like the stance with the stock 18" I,m running on eibach lowering springs and the ride is harder than stock, so if I upgraded to alcoas the ride would be even harder, although I love the look of the Alcoas. I also have QTP Electronic exhaust cutouts fitted, which now ground because of the lowering springs oh well you live and learn!!

wow I was thinking about an offroad x-pipe but I may have to go down the QTP cutout too they sound amazing! There great,(not everybodys cup of tea) open headers(bar the cats) at the flick of a switch had mine fitted at Atlantic Sports Cars where I bought the car. On my previous Mustang I had Boomtube Axlebacks to much drone. With the cutouts you can regulate the noise to the level you want although I have them full open hehe!! not all the time though they are NOISY!!As I still have the stock silencers nice and quiet cruising the best of both worlds I think, There has been a lot of discussion on the MOCGB Forums lately about exhausts have a look. Enjoy your car and welcome to the magic of the GT500
What I posted on return from the states..... the 2011my Mustang is up to Euro standard.

Why don’t they sell this car in the UK – was a fantastic drive.
Just back from the states and the guy at Avis offered me a BMW upgrade – I laughed and said “don’t you have anything American” and he offered a Mustang.
Was shocked it wasn’t the teenage girl/hire car v6 version but the five-point-oh.
Interior was really nice – Leather with Alfa style quilting on the doors , not the soft plastics of an Audi but nice enough. Ambient lighting really lifted it and shaker stereo rocked. But the 5.0 was the star of the motor 414bhp I read on my return and felt like it was the rumoured 4.5sec to 60.
Did 21mpg so about 25 uk mpg which is very good for a 400bhp engine on sluggish USA petrol with the air con on and an auto box.
Found a roundabout in Coral Gables Miami and gave it some stick and it handled really well – not what I was expecting with the live rear end. Felt the weight when transferring from lock to lock but tidy for its size.
Been nosing at prices £33k with SVA work done – tempting Is there a more popular UK forum or do people hang around on US forums ??
Anyone running the 5.0 on LPG ?
