I'm going to do the tunnel in first at 7000 rpm, sound will be awesome, speed probably ok too :-)

You can tell someone is really old when they use the term 'souped-up'.

Thing is - what does that even MEAN!? I decided to find out and - well - it seems no-one knows... frown

Before cars it was used (in the US) to refer to horses who'd been given something to make em run quicker but why 'soup' - who knows...

This somewhat derails my plans to put Heinz Tomato into my 405 at the weekend and run the tunnel - perhaps I'll just stay home and practice the drums...

So he's used to the noise of people accelerating out of Hindhead onto the old dual carriageway, presumably. NIMBY.
The roundabout at Hazel Grove is covered in tyre marks, clearly cars have been doing donuts round it. I'd imagine that gets boring after a while.

I don't see the problem with the complaints. Noisy cars drifting round the roundabout late at night (yeah, so the non-car enthusiast locals get the words wrong - so what?) then wheel-spinning back towards the tunnel? I can't see why nobody on here would be annoyed.

PS This thread happened last week. Twice.

PPS Some diesel owners' club are meeting there soon. rofl

I can see why the locals are getting annoyed but reading this has spurred me on to find out when the next meet is and pop down!

The Clio isn't going to be that much fun but I'd love to hear a Ferrari / Lambo at full chat through it!

TVRs sound incredible in the tunnel, so loud I couldn't hear my own MX5 which is pretty loud as it is.

Nope, would need something very, very serious to hit 200 in 1.2 miles
You could JUST do that on two wheels in standard trim For just shy of 14k. 16k would see it done easily.

What one person thinks is beautiful another might think is a pain in the arse. Its fair enough, they are loud cars particularly in the tunnels and while once or twice might sound good if you had the same thing every day then I dare say it would get annoying.

I'm a brainless, mindless thug. And so are the 40+ other PHers who joined in on our tunnel run last month frown

I'm going to sell my car and buy a Prius to keep triple bypass (6 years ago) Mr Broadhurst happy.
Went through the tunnel today. Had a Pious on my rear bumper all the way. Anti-social thugs!

I would actually love to hear ferrari's, lambos etc. Makes my day when i (very rarely) see and hear one driven properly.

I was also under the impression there was average speed cameras.

200mph is full of lol lol

Time trials? 200mph? rofl

There are average speed cameras.

However, they have a point. Some people are obviously taking it a bit too far. A bit of noise is fine in moderation, but driving recklessly for the purpose of being a moron is a different matter.

If I had a decent exhaust this would be a trip I would do as often as possible!!!! All it takes is a tunnel to turn a load of old men into hooligans!

I thought it was an American term used when an engine had been supercharged... hence 'supe'd up'.

I don't think Heinz ever got involved.

I'd love to take one of the vehicles from work down there - flat out it makes enough noise to be heard from up to two miles away, yet it only does 40mph:

RM 1062 - Scania re-engined Routemaster - absolutely deafening when in open countryside, should be fun in a tunnel nuts

Also, I'm incredibly disappointed that the tunnel has not been remodelled as a replica of the Monaco tunnel - that's what I thought this thread would be about frown
