I did the Jap thing when i was in my mid/late 20's with a modified EVO V, a very modified Fairlady Z, and an S13..... But the second i turned 30 i just felt silly driving those kind of cars. Not knocking the cars..... they are great. just dont like the image they have, anyomore.
Having said that, i would quite like a little silver Mk1 MX-5 (I think that will be a true classic in a generations time).
Image? Who is judging you?Having said that, i would quite like a little silver Mk1 MX-5 (I think that will be a true classic in a generations time).
I love that Skyline, top dollar but it looks a brilliant car, appears well looked after and tastefully modified.
I really like the odd ball saloons that wash up on our shores now and then. Toyota Chasers look like awesome fun if they have the 2JZ GTE engine in them from the Supra
Nissan have a couple of decent 4 doors too. Pity that the market has caught on to this and they now go for £5K plus which is crap for someone like me wanting a bit of luxury after a couple of years in an MX5!
So far, the only idea I've got is getting a Lexus GS300 and dropping it on some decent coilovers (at a UK friendly ride height I might add!) and adding some Volks all round. Cheaper to insure and dirt cheap to buy as they are still seen as granny cars.

I've had a few imports with a Skyline GTR R32 being the last.... ever. I loved my AW11 supercharger for it's amazing ability to piss on Elise et al and be just brilliant 200bhp helped I must admit. (plus the cool Tron cockpit)
R32. well um what a piece of over hyped crud. Heavy wobbly and massively expensive to fix. (Took it to the ring. Broke. Went to Tesco.. Broke) also the owners club is a bit crap with more biased (towards the clique) arguments than any other forum I have ever come across. Owned by nightclub bouncers, idiots and people who say haitch for H. etc.
Parts used
1 head £500 (cracked oilway)
3 x gearbox £600 each (3rd stripped 2nd syncro etc)
1 x twin plate carbon clutch £1400
1 turbo £300
4 x coils £100 each
brakes... too numerous to be bothered. Probably £2k to still have crap.
Subaru just bork themself's randomly from my experience. Be it gearbox transfer box or 3'rd cyl butter. I've never had a 944 box just throw it's input shaft without provocation, even 400lbft without making a grumble.
Generally I hate the newer cars because they are made to a price point and it shows. The 80's kit was beautifully engineered and I reckon holds an important place in automotive history (R32 Skyline included) 90's stuff is trash though bar NSX and S2000.
BTW I have a VX220 turbo, UK 200SX and manual BMW 540I incase of badge snobbery comments....... (The VX is my everyday.)

Out of those, I'd gladly have... the RX7, Skyline and Subaru. Particularly the Skyline. Always had a huge soft spot for the R32, R33 and (to a lesser extent) the R34. Apparently they're an incredibly unique driving experience; anyone care to venture an opinion?

Where did you get yours from badger? I have looked on the usual import sites but they seem quite rare. I want a manual too, which is quite difficult in slush box loving Japan...
I had the earlier BE model saloon...remapped it was quicker car alright... surprisingly light for what is also only weighed 1520kg..the body work is like the skin of an apple but a decent sneeze would dent it.dave stew said:
I've been toying with a Legacy 2.0 turbo estate for a while - proper reliable 4WD transmission with decent space and go.
Loving the Skoob - Legacy estates, single and twin turbo are monsters. Passed a red Blitzen a couple of months ago near Perth coming the other way down a country lane - what an awesome car! Can be found trawling the classifieds from time to time but for now a cooking Legacy will have to do.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
