Actually I wouldn't be surprised if for constant high speed driving that engine wasn't a disaster. Let's face it, if you want to sit at 70-80mph in your average diesel van fully laden you usually have to have the thing pinned for hours at a time, constantly chucking in extra fuel for component protection and subsequently getting fairly crap economy.

This thing however will be ticking along nicely at part load, probably quite close to peak BSFC if the gearing is right, perfect for transcontinental US jaunts with no need to worry about poor urban fuel consumption.
