We know he needs tyres if he buys the car. If he can do what I have done over recent years he could buy a set of 19s (if he wanted to) with very good tread and sell his to make it even cheaper. If he wanted to keep the 18s, then he could either get reemed a grand but, as you say, its only a 3k car so spending 1/3 of its value on tyres doesn't make sense or do the same as I suggested with the 19s.
I see, so saving money by buying wheels with tyres already on?

He could also buy some 18s with tyres on and sell the existing 18s and save even more?!

Yours have 18s I presume?
I don't have an M3 (so don't have 18s), however the E46 M3 is high up my list of next car to buy and one of my pre-requisites is 18s. In many cases, this makes the car cheaper (as many people want the style-over-substance option - which I understand but not for me).

I've driven both and I doubt you'd really tell the difference between the two sizes, anyway you'd usually find that the car with the 18s on will be poverty spec models so would want to be avoided like the plague.

Get into the invoices & list up what's been changed (you might find its surprisingly little) & you can pretty much plan what it's going to need as essentially he's the only owner:

For instance it had a clutch change at 80k miles, then another at 150k miles-so his driving style means it'll likely need another at say 220k miles.

Say he's gone through a set of front discs every 2 years-they were last changed in the summer of 2011 so they'll probably last for a good 18 months yet if usage & driving carries on the same.

Then of course you can make an informed decision on how your driving will change things-will it be you daily? Will you only use it twice a week? Will you just track it etc etc

Theres always going to be a difference in price between the two but, in this instance, I was commenting on Dracoro's requirement for 18s rather than 19s when he makes a purchase - that is unless he want to buy this one after the OP has had his fun??

OP if you don't buy it can you pass on the details, I'm interested in the car at the money suggested

Im after a new daily driver and this would fit the bill perfectly, as I rather miss my old E46 M3 despite its faults

Nothing underlines the value at the price quoted better than this request. Its definitely worth buying if it is the sort of car you really want.

I bought my first Renaultsport Clio on 46k and it started to fall apart around me! It was only 3 years old but cost me thousands in repairs.

A few years on now and I thought I'd give another one a go, it's on 110k and is absolutely spot on! Mileage means nothing.
Or somebody has already spent the money on it before you got it?

How long ago since last clutch/service/etc?

If EVERYTHING needs changing then the price is fair but not SUPERCHEAP Imo.
If all it needs is new tyres its lol-cheap.
Honestly mate, in 1 month your mate will wonder why he sold the m3 and paid money for an inferior car.

S4 has nothing on a m3.

High mileage could be the reason.

He may realise the car is getting towards the difficult times. Used by a different driver who does not cover 40,000 miles a year different ballgame.

Still a gamble but one I would take.

I dont think £4000 is a bargain these days.
I sold a lovely 2003 Imola red coupe 2 weeks ago for £8000. It had 76000 miles on it. I think that guy got a bargain, with the FSH, recent insp 1, clutch, springs and Continental M3 tyres I put on it.
They are good cars, but to be a bargain needing money spent on it and starship milage it would be the trade price to be worthwhile.

Needing money spent? It needs tyres, which pretty much every M3 driven properly will need once a year anyway. It hardly needs a new top end rebuild does it.

Is it due a service? Tax? Brakes? Rear Diff seal? Springs? Theres loads of things a car of that age may need. You will be very lucky if it doesnt.

Cars are very very cheap currently.

High mileage cars are extremely difficult to sell.

However this is a particular car from a particular manufacturer.

I think its cheap.

Given my propensity to undervalue cars (and buy them cheap!!) it MUST be cheap!

Surely that applies as much to the £10k ones as it does to this?
