Probably a sparingly-specced 5. Just. If you're talking VFM the 6GC is on tough ground, because it's hard to put an objective value on something as intangible as a 'luxury' feel...
See where you're coming from but, at 39k for 535iSE & 61k for the 640iSE, I find the price difference difficult to justify on paper anyway. Looks great IMHO but I notice this is the second time I have seen BMW use the satin/matt paint finish on a demo/PR vehicle - last was 2 weeks ago at Hockenheim on the 550Xd - did look very nice though and there was a chap polishing it which I thought ironic...maybe he didnt know it was supposed to be like that

Probably the best looking car that BMW currently produce, to my eye, but I can't help but feel that the 5-series should have looked something like this in the first place.
I would suggest spec savers or more likely, therapy.Riggers said:
but it is deliberately pricy...
That - for me - just reeks of Interbrew style marketing stness: Stella Artois - Reassuringly Expensive, despite it tasting no different to any other "premium" lager. This 6GC shares much of its technological architecture with the 5 Series, so why not amend the the 5 Series into a "coupe" like Mercedes did with the CLS? [tinfoil]Ah, but then they couldn't charge a premium price like they could if it was based on the more expensive 6 Series[/tinfoil].
Deliberately, reassuringly expensive.
Even if I cared not for the perceived marketing cynicism, the I Don't Want is strong with this one.
