You think somebody should die for a car? That's a bit excessive.
I know its one thing saying stuff on the internet, and another being in a horrible situation in real life, but I'd definitely be up for a big scrap at the very least before I gave my keys up.I'm young and have saved hard, both for my car and the ridiculous insurance premium, and would take me many years to get me to the same situation I am now if I had to claim, so to me, it doesn't seem that excessive.

The problem here is that this isn't just one little scrote breaking windows to take a sat nav, it's a gang of chaps who would be unlikely to just run off if the owner of the car suddenly confronted them wollowizard said:

I don't think someone should die for stealing a car no.I think 4 people should die for thinking they've for some strange reason got the right to take someone else's property without a single thought for the effect and impact that it's likely to have on that individual.
It's not the stealing of a car, it's the whole fked up mindset that criminals have that makes them think they are entitled to take whatever they want and fk the consequences.
Absolute scum.
Gutted for the OP too, as someone who's had to install CCTV at a previous house and had to then watch the hoody-over-cap-wearing pie key motherfkers prowl around my driveway, I can only imagine your anger.
I have to say that the tech they're using to steal the car is fascinating - if it's currently happening to cars that most people would consider to be a reasonably "premium" marque, I'd guess this can be pretty much be used with any car, given enough R&D?
A scary thought.

How is they are smashing glass and the alarms aren't going off? Which bit of glass is it?
Can someone answer this please? I'm confused...In short, BMW alarms have a blind spot that is being exploited in these two combined ways. Then along with the ODB port key programmer, means the theft is easy.

Its this type to attitude to other peoples property, and there for the severity of the punishment that gets my back up.There are parts of the legal system that have the attitude that if you can afford to purchase and insure the item its just a "material" loss that your insurer will pick up the bill for, therefore your loss is mitigated by the insurance policy and the cover provided.
I met several years ago one of these "liberal" practitioners of the law who had this very attitude, and also believed that to a greater extent that the purchase of an expensive Car, Watch, TV etc and leaving it out in the open was nothing more than placing temptation in the way of his down trodden clients.
Three strikes and you out I'm sure would be a better solution/deterrent here.
To the OP, gutted for your loss.
I'm not entirely sure they should increase the security of these cars. Let's be honest - the guys who come with the kit to reprogram the key fob are not opportunistic people. They've invested in kit and I would imagine are stealing to order. They're going to take the car whether they have to do what they did there, or if they have to pour petrol over your family and stand over them with a lit match until you give them the keys.
Either way, end result is car gone but I know which I would rather happened to me...

I'd have thought the whole glass would shatter under the force of a blow, so they must be doing something to isolate that small area?
Shocking, either way.
As said, you'd expect, on a premium car, all areas would be covered by the sensors, especially all around the windows. You shuldn't have to spend £43k on a car and then have to fit more security measures.
