GLOL! I bet that was a genuine WTF moment!
O/T but relevent to this comment - 20 odd years ago, I was following my then G/F's Mum along an A road, doing about 50, with her in her MGB GT in front of me.

Suddenly, her glass sunroof rose from the roof of her car like it was being lifted by some un-earthly force, hovered in the air for a second or two, and then crashed down onto the road in front of me, exploding into a million pieces! yikes

Bloody old British built rubbish frown

230k on a 2005 diesel laguna - yes, beleive it!
the word is its a friday car, whereby they forgot to put the faults in...

usual consumables, plus new clutch, new handbrake motor and x1 remap session is all its cost. oh, and practically 100% depreciation!

will get a thread up soon.
Isn't that the Laguna II aka the one that totally ruined Renaults reputation?

I have a Laguna III coming up to 60k. I'd love to see your thread.

I used to drive a 1986 Nissan Bluebird 2.0D taxi with over 350,000 on the clock, it still drove like a new(ish) car.

Except that the design life for modern cars is 300,000 miles in most cases.
Drivetrain I can believe, but the rest of it? A few years ago it was suggested to me that Ford aimed for ~120k with their six sigma processes.
The Six sigma target you speak of is approximately one in a million.

One in a million failures at 120,000 miles is pretty admirable.

I think I can stick my neck out and claim that Ford haven't quite nailed that one.

The T5 has just clocked over to 210,000 miles this week and the Cavalier Turbo is on 186,000 miles... has been for the last four years. Had I been driving it daily in that period, quarter of a million would have come and gone. Should really finish rebuilding it and get on the case.

I had a BMW 318 E30 Coupe - C664NTF iirc, bought it at 124,000 miles and part exchanged it at 243,000 miles - aside from a very worn drivers seat, brake pads, slave cylinder and a few sets of tyres nothing ever went wrong with it!

My brother in laws X Reg C240 Mercedes, my mates Dad owned the car from new and done most of the miles. It's still on the same engine, gear box etc... It is still a tight car! The photo below was taken about a year ago and last time I asked it was about to hit 300k

I clicked onto 200000 in my 328 Touring the other week -

It's been on LPG since 80K and has FSH... been on a steady diet of bushes and drivetrain components for the last 12 months or so. Engine's sweet though (the twin vanos version of the M52)

Slightly - rang the police to warn there may be a rear screen lying on the carriageway on the bridge and the call reception agent burst out laughing...

A few years ago had an ex taxi Mk2 Mondeo 1.8 Endura diesel with 286K on the clock, sold it on to another guy who did a further 40K with it. It had in its life three clutches but still on its original and never been apart engine and box. Only downside would be you would have to hold it in first gear to stop it dropping out into neutral as the linkage was worn.
Have a mate who has an Omega 2.5 diesel (BMW straight six) with 530K, original engine/box and only two clutches in its life, still runs and drives superbly..

Indeed it was. It wasn't particularly fast but had a very smooth and relaxed power delivery, very enjoyable to drive.

What model of E38 is that? straight 6 or V8? or, dare I ask....V12?

the highest mileage E38 i know of is a 728i with over 400k on it! still original engine and gearbox but it must be almost all motorway miles.

I've driven that engine in a Corrado. Very underrated. 40mpg on the motorway yet despite it modest power, an abundance of torque. 80-110mph seemed quite effortless. Great engines.
