only 1860kg... that's positively featherweight
BMW 7 series weighs in at just under 2300kg in top spec
Well considering a 7 series is in a completely different league to this seems a totally daft comment but there we go. isn't this more an X3 competitor?BMW 7 series weighs in at just under 2300kg in top spec
The X3 35d weighs a very similar amount to the diesel Porsche, except it has over 20% more power. And costs less.
I think we waste too much time on SUV hate, I bet this is a actually a revelation and does most things very very well.
Is it we dont like the cars or want to avoid having something the Cheshire school run mums drive ? I think we avoid a lot of cars due to our prejudices, rather than any failing with the car itself.
I would have one of these, think its quite a looker, thats just what cars are like nowadays, they make quite good sense as I found out earlier in torrential rain as the RAVS and RR Sports cruised through the river that had appeared and I had to turn round.

Massive technological acheivement. Depressingly it is comparatively lightweight, when I read the title I was expecting it to be well over two tonnes but as already pointed out it weighs a simular amount to a large saloon.
It seems with modern SUVs the traditional drawbacks have been engineered around so successfully that they are now minimal, and the family SUV is actually a practical proposition to more people than ever.
What bothers me is that these cars have gone to almost supercar levels of complexity in their efforts to 'defy physics'.

It looks to me that this is the only place the 911 styling cues work, outside of a 911, the Panamera I like but it does look a bit weird from certain angles, the first Cayenne I thought was a joke, a Touareg with a 911 front on, looked like some wacky Dub Scene hybrid, subsequent ones were more successful at blending the styling cues so it didn't look like a cut and shut but this just works.
I wonder if it will spoil gate crash the Evoques party, most smaller SUVs are a bit meh, Freelander is a decent enough thing but looks a bit hair shirt now the Evoque is here, Audi Q3 from the Russian Doll school of styling, the Japanese and Koreans etc are now trying a bit too hard and dont have the right badge to cut it whatever they do, this looks right and has the brand image to compete with the Evoque, who knows what will happen, suspect it will steal a few sales but the Evoque is pretty entrenched in the Yummies book of cars, along with Minis and the like, they arent all that bothered about 400 bhp, I suspect this will be the blokes choice, perhaps Porsche need the Geordie bird from Xfactor or someone to run up some curtains for it ?

still quite light considering though

Will fly out of the showrooms! The RR Evoque really does need a sporty model now in its line up though, a 3.0 V6 S from the F-Type would do nicely!

MyCC.
I have to say that I like both this and the Evoque. Nice mini 4x4. I'm an LR man at heart but I would choose the Porsche in this sector for two reasons: Firstly, Porsche are finally getting their interiors of their non sports cars correct. They've added the luxury that was missing before as they struggled to make the transition from sports car builder to utility vehicle builder. And secondly, and the real clincher, performance and by an absolute mile.Regards,
MyCC.
If you are in the market to replace a hot hatch with something slightly more practical but wanting to retain the performance then this smashes the Evoque.
On a separate note, in recent months the rear of the Evoque has suddenly begun to look very dated in my view and that's been a surprise. Especially when you see it in silver.

I thought the SQ5 was 313bhp? Article seems to suggest it has 230bhp...
SQ5 has twin turbo and 313hp I think - article wrong. Even basic Q5 has 245bhp these days (according to a quick flick I had at Audi's UK website this morning)According to the latest issue of Motor Trend (the SUV of the Year issue), it produces 354 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 347 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm. 0-60 was tested at 4.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.5 @ 102.2 mph. Pretty impressive numbers in its own right!
I find myself annunciating the "Mer-Carn" every time i see the name Macan, which then reminds me of a "Gacka" scene from evolution;

Simple things for simple people i suppose.
