As a V12 owner I can say our in car tech is a little dated and the satNav awful. I don't give a monkeys about this though. If AMG are developing 8/12 cylinder engines with cylinder deactivation/hybrid functionality then it's in AM's long term interest to move with the times. AMG also have mega money, AM simply can't compete with that
100% - the AMG-developed engine has hardly hurt the appeal of the Pagani Zonda, and the BMW M Power-developed engine in the McLaren F1 gets some pretty good reviews ...The 4.0 V8 makes perfect sense, but it would also be nice to see a 750bhp V12 from AMG to give Aston what it will take to go head to head with the F12, in the Vanquish Mk3.

The AMG built 4.0 V8s in the AM on the other hand, unless significantly fettled by AM, are likely to be considered another crate engine (AMG or not)and potentially devalue the AM brand to another coachbuilder...
We'll see how it pans out and I hope my fear for the AM brand is not realised.

I hope this future plan works better than Lotus' five-years-five-cars plan...
Well, given that that Lotus plan was devised and announced under their moderately-deranged egomaniac and that Aston's moderately-deranged egomaniac 'has left the building', there's probably a greater likelihood that it's been though through a little more sensibly. I certainly hope so.lamboman100 said:
Astons are too slow, too unreliable and not all that pretty. Too many look like downmarket Mondeos and Jags. They really need a new CEO to grab the company by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shakeup. Build a 2-seconds-0-to-60 flagship model at the premium end, and improve the Vantage quality and acceleration at the lower end. Aston right now is trapped, because it is not as pretty or fast as Ferrari or Lambo, not as well engineered as Porsche, and not as cheap as Jaguar.

Not sure about the handling or looks comment? I've got an R8 and an Aston, yes the R8 is quicker to 60 but my Aston looks and handles every bit as well as the R8. Suprised me when I had a proper drive in it.Would I like more low end torque? Probably, but then I'm not trying to beat anyone off the line like a 17yr old in a suped up nova;If I want a race then I get in the Audi, My Aston is a GT first and for most.
Quality is great, much better interior than the R8 I can tell you. As for 2 seconds, why? Not sure it's their target demographic to go up against McLaren / Ferrari top end models? Anyhow the Vanquish is sub 4 like most of the cars in that price range.
