RE: Promoted content: Audi RS3 'born restless' part I
Discussion
I'd have rather chipped in £20 to Pistonheads rather than have Audi pay to promote itself on here. Maybe Pistonheads should start a donations section if funds are required for the site upkeep. The ads don't bother me but the promoted content does.
Sorry to be negative but that's just my opinion. But I am sick and tired of Audi, and VAG in general, receiving lots of praise but very little critisism in reviews (not just Pistonheads in particular). Even when negative aspects of the cars are pointed out, understeer, no steering feel and ridiculous prices you have to pay on extras to spec a car up to a decent spec, they are brushed aside as not a big deal. Off topic I know but I can't be the only one with this opinion.

Doesn't work for me Then again, my work PC is a bit of an oddball.
480p quality though?! What was it filmed on, a calculator? No excuse for anything other than HD nowadays if you ask me.
I've no problem with PH promoted content - PH aren't forcing anyone to watch it, are they?
I did laugh at the name Nik Attard though. Nik A tard - get it? How mature of me

Why Audi would want to advertise here is beyond me. Biggest collection of VAG haters on the internet
I thought the same. Saying that, if VAG made a dynamically decent fking car I don't think they'd be much "hate". A lot of the "haters" on PH aren't illogical, can you remember the previous RS3? What an embarrassment to the RS badge that was.neil1jnr said:

they don't http://www.haymarket.com/brands/a-z
For me it's very telling that Audi are plastering RS3 adverts everywhere, pretty much every major digital outlet that has the slightest whiff of motoring is covered.
For a car like this the chat & first drive reviews should sell the allotted number of this model with minimal advertising.
The sheer volume and spread suggests one or more of the following:
It'll only get mediocre reviews at best post drive (even factoring in that they've never been a great steer!;
Previous incarnations have tainted the brand to the point Audi feel they heve to re 'halo' the model (picturing silver tinsel on a wire hanger!);
The myriad of other Vag products 1% lower in capability are sucking up all the demand;
The myriad of other Vag products 1% lower in capability make a £15-20k premium a very hard sell in a hot hatch car, especially when that's nearly doubling the price of it's main in house competition;
You'll just think it's a sub £20k 1.6tdi in the rear view not a £50k+ RS3 until it blaps by you (I know this will appeal to many!)
Sure I've left off others but you get the gist!

Great car, lovely sound (really really nice), but not an aggressive enough stance in RL and just lacking overall. I thought no worries, at £40k, it is decent value, but even though I'm not one for optional extras, spec'ing up the absolute minimum, of which Audi provide nothing but a steering wheel as standard soon hikes the price north of £47k, for pretty much nothing extra that you'd not get on for example a Golf GTI/R as standard! In that price range, you'd be able to pick up a 1-2 year old RS4...I know where my money would be!
Must be selling well though, my Audi dealer never got back to me to arrange an extended test drive or to order one!!! I'll wait to see if any lease deals suddenly appear instead
Chris Harris is releasing a video of it soon...his initial thoughts are Golf R with change please.

As pointed out in video No. 2, fatter front tyres, yes. But as a costed option, not standard. I do like them, but will never be able to afford one. To get a decent spec as well you need to add another £10k to the list price.
As above mentioned though, I find it odd so much marketing has gone into this.

Better yet, the whole thing is obviously computer generated because the RS3 couldn't drive on such road.
Embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe this farce!
Maybe they were worried that the stunt driver would have disabled the stability control without written permission from Audi.

It would have taken a Hollywood budget of millions to do that convincingly with CGI.
Besides I work in the industry and happen to know somebody from the production company who made it.
They used a standard production road car.
You should be impressed by that but I suspect you'll find a reason not to be...
By far the biggest beef I have with this ad though is Audi's relentless trading off of the ur's success on rally and it's presence on road whilst at the same time offering practically no heritage support unlike BMW and Mercedes. Five years I've owned my urq and getting spares is almost impossible.
I have no problem with trading off of its success, after all who wouldn't, but at least then do a short run of critical spares so that the remaining ur's can be kept on the road (and thereby a rolling advert for Audi!) rather than rotting in peoples garages waiting for that one part to pop up somewhere.

Get the same general comments on the blade even though it has been the fastest thing round the TT for god knows how long.

Agree with that. Although I'm sceptical that money from these particular ads is really required to keep the site going. If that was the case shouldn't we have heard something beforehand, asking for donations or support? "Promoted content" is the lowest of the low.
The only saving grace is that it's such a comically poor effort from VAG that we can all have a good laugh about it.

But for the avoidance of doubt, yes, Audi has paid for some RS3 videos to be promoted on PistonHeads. And if some of that hearty marketing budget goes towards keeping the site going then hopefully that's acceptable. We would not - could not - pretend there are any blurred lines between editorial and paid-for content. And if there's a discussion to have on the matter, well, we have the platform for that!
Cheers,
Dan

Classifieds & various other Ads not hitting the Haymarket points hurdle, or was it a loaded extended test? Probably far from the first on the latter front, though the money would be better spent on the product.
Donations page? I presume that is stated sarcastically as a joke?
Haymarket, site owner, did approx £188m in revenues last year, £11m profit, and Pistonheads, alongside WhatCar, is their biggest brand.
This site is big business and is certainly commercially successful by the looks of things!

Christ, 480p video with more artefacts than Pompeii. Ignoring the video player (which, when it works, erm... works), that's awful quality. It looks like Youtube from 2007.
It was unwatchable. Why on earth not 1080p?That said, I'd take a Golf R and blow the leftovers on hookers and coke (and by that I mean fuel and insurance).

It will doubtless appeal to some, but a potential pricey way to get there.
It just looks so bland for an RS model, for the money it should look awesome - though I liked the clubsport saloon concept from a few months back.
Why couldn't it look like that? Keep the restrained looks for the s model, lets have some ballsy looking rs cars to justify that silly price tag!
