The dealer should deliver the car to an acceptable standard, based upon what is reasonable.

This includes with all the carbon parts fitted accurately.

In relation to the paint, I do think that this is an example of someone who is clearly very exacting (beyond what is to be expected from the norm - i.e. anal) re paintwork. One cannot expect BMW to deliver the car with a £2k detail, unless of course it's paid for as part of the deal.

My advice is this. Get the carbon rectified and detail it yourself.

Alternatively, just get the carbon sorted and then have word with yourself about how lucky you are, get out there and drive the living daylights out of it. Life's too short to get upset about this sort of thing, non?

I'm not questioning its ability as a great all-rounder, but if cars are apparently your passion I struggle to see an M4 as a 'passion' choice. Without even thinking about it I could split your £70k budget between an early Audi R8 (manual) for some proper 'passion' and a 63-plate 435d for rapid 'comunting' purposes.

I accept that it's 'each to their own' but I struggle to understand spending this amount on a car that really isn't much more 'special' than a 435d.
And who the f*** are you to question his decision? He posted to discuss swirl marks not his choice of car. I despair of this place sometimes.
Shut up! His Kia's got sat nav.

Er, fk you very much, but it's an open forum and I'm just putting forward a view.

Why is the standard response to any criticism always 'you can't afford it' anyway? Laughable.
No one's asked for your view on the car you halfwit but of course you took the opportunity to demonstrate what a motoring connoisseur you are by suggesting what else OP could have purchased. You are the one who is laughable.

errummmm. I was with you right up to the point where you call an audi a proper passion choice after berating the op for choosing a BMW hehe

At least pick a gallardo as you can have the R8 engine but without the shopping trolley exterior!

I'm a user of a forum where cars and car choicesis pretty much the main purpose of being here. He can spend his money how he likes, but when someone says their only passion in life is cars I sort of expect something a little more interesting than a 4-series with a remap*

I agree with you OP. It is a very nice car and as you say a lot people would struggle to buy one, including me. That is why i have an old M5 E39 and a Honda Jazz.

Ignore the posters who think you should put up. You earned it so get what you expect.

Absolutely fair point! But the R8 is a bit different to every other Audi.

I would love to own that M4.

Swirls aside, it looks absolutely on point.

A chum recently purchased one and it sounds phenomenal.

There's more to it than that...

They're not "scratches", they're "swirl marks" that can - apparently - only be sorted with the application of the thick end of two grand. It's not even a metallic, ffs.

(On a separate note, I wonder how much of that £3,500 goes to Fiat group for the use of their trademark in the colour name...?)

Ah - the old 'look at the poster's profile and criticise their car' approach to debate. Any reason you didn't mention my Caterham at all? smile

for gawd sake op, post pictures of the problem.

You have a whole bunch of people intimating that your standards are too high because you used to be a paint detailer.

Prove them wrong by actually showing a picture of the problem paint work!!!!!!

hehe

OP, let BMW try to rectify. If it's still not at a reasonable standard of finish thereafter, drop the keys and walk.

Personally, I'm no expert on paint finish /detailing nor the most fussy on this front, but the paint on many new cars can be pretty horrendous whether due to poor process or damage in transit (expensive BMWs included, optional paint or not). Do you have a sense of whether the paint was poorly applied or if it was damaged in transit / prep?

And a Caterham, and a Range Rover (even if it is an old one). I've clearly upset the BMW fanboys; I had no idea you were so thin-skinned (rather like the paintwork).

probably... used to be Swissol shop and allthingscarnuaba smile
In that case and don't take this the wrong way i'm going to take a guess that your standards are way above the factories. This is no bad thing of course but i think you may have a challenge getting BMW to see your point of view.

I personally would tell them you're not confident that they can resolve it and see if you can get money off a service or something instead and just detail it yourself, by the sounds of it you are more than capable.

Hope it works out for you whatever way you go.
