This just pulled in, I'm at a hotel on Lac Leman in Switzerland.

Nice Bentley here too.

A few other things here.

That's a Bi-Turbo.

New hotel, Lake Lugano, really lovely.

This out the front:

I will be doing virtually nothing here too I'm afraid, I've ballsed this trip up badly.
I've got a new car coming in October/November so if this year is a damp squib I'll pull out all the stops for the next one!

I'm going to spill on why I've ruined this one. I've done some pretty embarrassing stuff over the years on these threads but this one is really stupid and will not reflect well on me.
But in the interest of openness...

I really love your threads, but this is the fourth time you've 'teased' more detail on this accident of yours. Will we ever find out what happened when you fell over? laugh

This is really long and self indulgent, and probably not worth your time reading.

I went out on the Saturday afternoon before I came out here on the Onewheel, it was blistering hot. I have a few really good trails not far from me that I like to go to and I had a good hour crashing through bushes and flying up empty lanes, it was all good.

A little later on I passed a pub which I sometimes go in, the sun was beating down and families were in the garden so I decided to have a couple of slow beers.
I've done this before on the onewheel, just a couple, doesn't impair me in any way and then I just carry on with the ride.
Bit of a different day however.

The reason I came out early Tuesday morning was that it was Shal's birthday on the Monday. Obviously I want to be home for that, spend the day thinking about her and seeing her mum and stuff. So I'm sitting in this pub garden thinking about the upcoming day and all it entails and I got a little reflective and drank more than I intended.

Let me be very clear, I'm not blaming Shal's birthday for what I did, it's all on me clearly, I'm a fking adult and I am responsible for my own actions but it's just a little context to why my head wasn't right.

So anyway, I drank more than I should have. I wasn't smashed or stupid or anything, but I was buzzed and that's got to affect judgement. I carried on the ride for another hour and a half, down some very tricky footpaths and stuff and I was riding really well, no problems at all. Frankly it was great to do something that's already a high adrenaline thing with the added frisson of a beer buzz. Not a good thing to admit but there it is.

It started getting late and I decided to head back.
I was only a quarter of a mile from home on a stretch of quiet road that I do ride pretty fast, I remember every detail up till then but suddenly, black out. This is what I've been able to piece together.

A bloke sitting in his flat heard a series of loud bangs and a car suddenly speeding off. He looked out and saw me lying in the road. He rushed out, bless him, and I was unconscious. He later told my sister he saw the car dissappearing around the bend so he calls an ambulance and tells them I've been hit by a car.
My board is on the other side of the road.

I come to - I have no recollection of any of this - and he tells me to stay still an ambulance is coming. I completely ignore that, jump up, tell him I'm fine and start looking for my board.
I tell him to cancel the ambulance cos it's Saturday evening and I don't want to waste their time, I remember nothing of this.
I then grab the board and go walking off.

An absolutely diamond young couple who live above the original fella are watching out of their window and see me walking away, they did not like the look of how I was behaving and actually came out and ran to catch me up.
They said I was chatting away to them but just looked weird, I told them I lived just around the corner and they said they'd walk me back.
So then I come around properly. I'm standing in an alleyway with two people I've never seen before and the guys holding my board. I'm completely confused and they guide me home.

My skid lid, which was a really good one, is split open up one side above my ear, and my headphones are smashed.
They get me into my kitchen and then I notice that I've pissed myself, my shorts are completely soaked, really impressive stuff in front of these two young people.
The guys got my phone and he's asking who people are, he thinks my sister is my daughter and he phones her, she drives round. I'm still pretty weird and the young couple tell my sister what this other guy reported, the young couple didn't see a car but they didn't look until after I jumped up.
My sister drove round there to see if I'd left anything behind and the old bill are there looking for me.
So she tells them where I am and they come round.

When they walk in I suddenly realise there's beer involved here, and it is a vehicle, albiet an uncategorised one, so st suddenly gets serious.
They are mostly concerned with the report of hit and run, the guy who found me can't be sure and didn't get a number so it's all a bit confusing.
Once the police arrived I really did get a clear head and started trying to put things together.
I had no idea if I was hit by a car, I could have just lost concentration for a second at speed and hit a curb or something, either way I was over the limit and I had no interest in getting the police involved, I know I've been a either way and if somebody did hit me it was probably my fault so I'm telling them no, I just fell off, the other guy is mistaken.

Throughout all of this I'm not feeling any pain.

Luckily both coppers were car guys and they started talking about the mclaren and one of them does a bit of amateur racing so we all start chinwagging about cars and everything is cool.

They do insist I go to hospital to get checked though so I go through the motions of getting in the car with my sister. We drive up to the first roundabout and I tell her I'm fine and I want to go back home.
I go to bed.

I wake up a couple of hours later and fk me!
Now I really do feel like I've been hit by a car!

Ribs are fked, back, hip, elbow, fingers on my left hand, banging head ache with a weird stabbing behind my eyes when I look at light.
Any movement, in any direction is excruciating, like literally crying out if I tried shift an inch.

I'm fked up so just lay in bed for 20 hours. Took me a half hour to get up and take a piss, all of it shouting out like a baby!

I didn't want to miss this trip so I came anyway. It's been hilarious in many ways, it's takes me geological time to get in and out of the car, I can't carry anything heavier than a toilet roll and if I walk about a quarter of a mile I start heavy breathing like an athsmatic.

I presume there is no internal organ injury cos I'd be dead by now but most of the bones in my upper body have been bashed.
If I sneeze or cough its the end of the world.
So I'm just staying in the rooms 99% of the time and grinding out the driving between hotels.

I've messed this one up proper. The ribs are the worst of it, just hoping they ease enough this week for me to start doing stuff.
I've cracked them before and I seem to remember it was a good 4 weeks before it eased.

Leanne who works for me is going to take flowers and a nice amazon voucher round to the young couple, who were brilliant.

If I was hit by a car I just hope they don't catch the bd!
It can only make things worse!

Never a dull moment Brad!

Get some respite on this trip but don’t skip the pics of the roads and hotels. Perhaps your evening exploits will just be slightly curtailed as you recover!

Wow, not a great start to your trip. yikes

Hopefully your ribs will start healing before the 4 weeks point. I fell backwards off a ladder once and landed on the tin of adhesive that I'd climbed down to get. paperbag Took a week at least before I wasn't in pain just trying to move, but slowly improved after that. Hope you can enjoy the trip despite this accident. beer

Jesus, that's pretty savage.

I'm no doctor, but as someone who was concussed a few times playing sport the consistent advice I got was to avoid alcohol for a few weeks afterwards.

Good luck with the recovery.

Oh.

Sitting in the hotel restaurant with a nice red is all I've got at the moment!
I'll take the chance.

Thank you for everyones kind thoughts, I was expecting a bit of a savaging.
There's still time!

I forgot to add, I will go and thank the guy who called the ambulance when I get home, I just don't have any info on him at the moment.

This:

I'm here for three days then off to the Kempinski at St Moritz, one of my favourite hotels.
There are huge lakes next to the hotel which I was really looking forward to boarding round, that's probably out.

I'd personally err on the side of caution.

I vividly remember a doctor who checked me out after I was knocked unconscious telling me that alcohol inhibits the brain's ability to recover from trauma injuries like serious concussions. He recommended me 3 months without alcohol, but I don't know what he based that on.

Take care of yourself.
