I would say in general it's a few months until I stop looking back at it after parking... however I still do after a good polish! Even years later.

I tend to keep cars around 4 years, but slowly modify them to keep myself interested.

AutoTrader is a daily thing though, regardless. Usually what I do is buy a new car, then find a better one the following week on AT drunk

I'm 18 months 7k miles into owning my GR86, absolutely love it. I know people that would have already moved on in that time.

When the first thing goes wrong or not according to plan, may it be strange noises, uncouth driving behaviour, could be big issues or small irritating ones.
Some cars have the benefit of looks/power/whatever first, but when it wears thin, time's up.
Depending on car, could be two weeks up to five years.

Almost immediately. I still enjoy a spirited drive now and then, but as for buying 'new', not that bothered.

Perhaps it's down to the fact my love of cars has somewhat died recently. Sure it'll come back, eventually.

I used to get itchy feet every 6-12 months but I've had to calm down as it was costing me a fortune and turned out to be an (expensive) coping mechanism.

Made sure this time I went for something that ticked every box as a daily driver, and factory ordered something for the first time ever so it was 'my' spec.

Tempted to get a GT86 as a weekend car though!

Usually quite soon after purchase for me.. I love the research and and the collection though!

I do think need to calm down now though hehe

I'm already looking at how a Giulia Quadrifoglio could be possible, but I must stop looking.

Current car was 2 weeks after buying it, enough to start finding things that you just don't like or don't work properly.

Got ourselves a wee Abarth 595 about 3 months ago and have not stopped loving it and treating it like a brand new car since! We make excuses to take it a drive. Every journey, even the school run, are great fun and myself or my wife will always have something to say after a journey,,,, always positive.

It sits next to bikes, my Dmax Arctic Truck and a Defender so very different and definitely not perfect but really found our wee niche I'd say.

The closest thing we've had to a new car was a J-plated Ford Fiesta 'Fanfare' special edition. It took a good day or two to get over the excitement of being able to show off the special stickers and rubber spoiler, but things went downhill rapidly thereafter. What sort of engine did it have? Who knows? Who cares?
I too had a Fanfare - J324PTF to be precise. The metallic blue was a brilliant colour. The 1.1 8v with 4 speed box, not so brilliant.
Ours was red. It's a shame we didn't know each other back then as we could have had a race!

I've never bought a brand new car as for whatever budget, there's always something more exciting used.

It took me about three years of walking out of the house past my RX-7 to get over how beautiful it was. But even after ten years and lots of maintenance, I still enjoyed driving it, I never got tired of owning it.

Other cars I've gone off quicker, but it depends on the car.

Purchased my Skoda Superb nearly new, it’ll be 10 years old on Friday!
Still love the car, never let me down, cheap to run, comfortable on our 3rd world roads.

Cosby me 14k, now worth 4k, 1k a year depreciation pretty good!, £30ish a year tax.

I want an EV, but not parting with the Skoda for 4k.

Kids have Tesla’s / Polestars etc
I want but resisting.

May as well drive it until it expires, owes me nothing.

Best car ive owned by far, better than my previous BMWs/VW/Saab etc

I bought a newish Merc 250d fake amg estate with some money I got from shares, as the company I worked for got sold and we all got a payout.

Turns out:
1) I’m not a Merc person
2) it is perfectly average in every way and has zero character
3) not even that economical
4) doesn’t handle that well considering how bad the ride is

I swapped with my wife for her L200.

We could have paid off the loan on the L200, done the shower room, bought a new bike etc., but instead I spent it all on a car I don’t like.

I’d go back to my SAAB 9-3 any day
In the nicest way possible, it’s a decent taxi spec family load lugger, what were you expecting?!
I had a newish 330d before the SAAB, which managed to mostly be useful and half fun to drive.

It’s a totally fair comment though, I think it’s just that I dislike it so much more than I thought I would. The fancy stereo is not even as good as the basic one in the L200.

This wasn’t wholly a decision by me btw, I was much happier with my V6 turbo Saab wagon
Fair do’s, just a bit of good old fashioned buyers remorse.
Had the same when I bought an Audi A6 many moons ago.
Nothing really wrong with it, just realised I’d dropped a chunk of change into a car that I actually didn’t like much.

For me it depends on the car. My 981 Boxster, it took me seven years to get to the point I was ready to part with it, I replaced it with an M2 Comp, flogged it after five months, absolutely hated the thing, it bored my socks off every single time I drove it. I do not get the hype about that car… I wish I hadn’t wasted my money on it.

I wasn’t sure what to replace it with, but having had a lotus before, and a few other nice cars before that, I decided to go for an Audi TTRS convertible, 2018 just before they brought in the particular filters. The car is an absolute hoot, a real occasion. I’m honestly not sure it handles any worse than the 981. Atmospheric Engine.

I buy cars I like and only sell them for a reason, not because I'm bored or fancy a change.

My latest purchase is a Mk2 Escort, 3rd one I've owned and upgraded from previous. I could park it next to a supercar and it will get all the attention. Mind, you probably cost more too!
