Why would a contemporary luxobarge from one of the established European order require "knowledge of cars to appreciate?"

See, I don't really accept that luxobarges 'do' character, emotion or soul and no, the Quattroporte is more a larger mid sized exec slugger aux M5, RS6 et al thus counts not.

Having sampled the rest methinks I have tasted the best so please, convince me.

P.S. Lepton, have you experienced prolonged exposure to the charms and delights of either the 430 or 460? This latest car - particularly in lwb form - is really quite something (the LS600 is admittedly flawed due to the inadequate boot space.)

I do not like it. Especially not for 81k. Don't care what anyone says, I'd still rather have an S-class or 7-series over that.

Am a bit Toyota for sure - but if I was to pay for an execubot, it'd either be that or the A8.

Glorified Toyota Camry for the hard-of-thinking.
Thats why you'll find your average owner has previously owned an S Class, 7 Series and an XJ and is on their 5th LS..... they do what they claim unlike the opposition

Nothing out wafts an LS just ask Derestricter for Details.... anyone who puts an LS down has blatantly never driven one

Why pay more for an inferior nay unreliable S Class? and in its latest guise its actually better looking than a 7 Series or an S Class!

but save your money and just buy the 460!

Not even proper Bentleys? (Turbo RL for example).
Apart from those, good point. wink

Well that just about says it all. Ever come across a yank with class?

Tsk tsk tsk, why are you all being so mean to that lovely ls!

I run (or used to run, now that I can walk to work) a 93 LS400 as a daily driver and it was perfect - supreme comfort, v8 grunt and a decent stereo.

This will make my LS look like a mk1 micra and I cannot wait for it to depreciate smile

Agree with Tonkers sentiment.....only the truly wallet'd buy these things new. However, witness their shocking depreciation and they make proper bargain barges, bar none.

I tell you what, save the same era 7 series, nothing, and I mean nothing, exuded the quality and general well-screwed-together-ness of my LS430. With nearly 90K on the clock this is still very much the case. A recent ride in a similar vintage S-Class only served to underline my thoughts....thank Christ the Merc dealer was so ride and impersonal.

DEPRECIATION

But is the depreciation on a Lexus significantly different from any of the German cars in the same class?

It's all relative but the 460s are moving.

The official dealers' prices decline in broad union but decline they do, glacially at the mo but over the next 18-24 months, I dread to think.

What I am convinced of is once below £30k you will be looking at preposterous value and frankly, the reality of ineviatble sinkage below £20k and more subsequently to that is borderline criminal, it just is!

This car has the grunt of an E39 B10 V8S but a constitution of finest goosefeather...

Very little infuses a sense of well being like a nicely geometried LS... shout Greg! wink

so everyone knows how much money he spent on the car, rather than buy the car for the cars ability to do the job scratchchin

For the first time ever Lexus have actually produced a car that even looks better than the German rivals, the one area that always let it down

LS's are bought by Buyers who do not feel the need to impress others.... just themselves!

I think I'm right in saying Lexus has been
number 1 in the JD Power survey for about five
years or more.

I think that speaks volumes for how happy
the customers are.

Is the car any good ? Debatable.

Would I give one house room ? Arguable.

Has Lexus shown the Germans how to do customer
satisfaction ? Very definately.

JD Power is all about expectations - for a Mercedes to beat the Lexus, it would have to be faster than a Ferrari, handle like a Porsche, look like a Lamborghini, be more reliable than a passenger airliner and the dealers would have to offer complimentary blow jobs from nubile porn stars when you took it in for a service.

Ok, STOP.

Steve, with all due respect, you're just MILES off the mark with this anti Lexus stance.

The wood in the LS430 is reputedly supplied by Yamaha and matches the calibre of that found on their pianos, i.e. NOT sh1te.

Indeed, 'touch and feel' the stuff then repeat the process in a new S class: the LS430 material is better.

The leather is fantastic, too: soft AND durable, easily comparable with the Merc.

Dashboard material quality and illunimated instrument quality equally unmatched.

I know plenty people who have harboured such opinions only to be blown away by the fit and finish inside, where even the coat hangers are damped in their response.

Every time I've stepped between LS430 and (certainly) last gen S classes, the cheapness accusation NEVER feels applicable to the Japanese car...

These are not subjective comments but objective observabilities, I promise you. PLEASE, if you have the opportunity, have a gander, you may be genuinely taken aback.

On an LS400 maybe - can't comment but on an LS430? Go drive one and then tell me you still think the same.

The leather in my '430 knocks the socks off anything out of Stuttgart, period.
