Sorry if I am boring some people with these pics but I just love the fact that for a car that had such a small run how each one can be so different and still look cool each time.

First off the the "about to take flight shots"

Now a few more interior shots. I like the exposed gear linkage on the races, it just looks tough!!

F1 ... but I'd lose the rear wing. They look better without.

With a radio, no less! redface

The colour of the alcantara dash in the images is lighter than in real life. In real life, that white would have nearly blinded the driver. It was more a dark ecru, almost tan.

It must be weird though driving a car from the middle.
In fact not, quite natural. Though judging proximity to curbs/barriers on either side is a bit nerve-racking.
I would imagine driving a car from one side seems wierd after you've driven a car from the middle.

Not a good scan because the enamel badge sticks up, but when I was on the NEC stand and expressed interest in buying they sent me the cataogue and later on this Xmas card and badge.

I think for two reasons - the recession and mainly because I didn't have the money! Still don't looking at Octane and the car sold at £2.5 million! I still have the memories though of the factory visit and it has to be said that the catalogue is fantastic. Exploded designs on tracing type transparent paper and such excellent photography, plus of course this little enamel badge and card.

The older I get the more I love the Maclaren, it is a work of art.....

but the Veyron is a masterpiece of engineering, a car that despite the law of diminishing returns still smashed the records of all that went before , and as an engineer I prefer it by miles and would take a Veyron over the Maclaren anyday.

Also the Maclaren would be pushed into third place on my priority list by the Ferrari F40, a supercar more focused than anything built before or since. Function creating form creating art.

I can respect that, I too love to wallow in the engineering that makes the Veyron possible but I feel more attached to the single mindedness (is that a real word?) of the F1. Its the sort of thing that just does not happen anymore apart from the likes of Zonda which I think is the real sucessor to the F1

I suppose if were talking artworks as cars then the Zonda should be more artwork than the Maclaren but it just doesn't do it for me like the Maclaren does.

For me the real successor to the Maclaren is the Koenigsegg, although again don't quite love it as much as the Maclaren.

I was only about 3 or 4 when the McLaren was released to the press - It is STILL one of my all time favourite cars. The only supercar I would have second to a McLaren F1 would be either a Jaguar XJ220 (love my Jags and had the fortune to have a go in one! biggrin) or a CGT (in yellow of all colours eek)

The F1 for me though is still the definitive supercar bar none.

If you love it so much why can't you spell it's name correct? wink

It's McLaren

Having been around both of your "successors" I can safetly say the K'egg doesn't even come close to the finish and quality of the Zonda, which itself (although utterly fantastic) is not as good as the F1. The Koenigsegg is very nice but the cars I have seen have always seemed, I guess the best way of putting it is "slightly worn". Which considering the cars have been new is slightly worrying.

That being said for me the spiritual successor to the F1 is the Zonda without any doubt in my mind. Ultra high quality, fanatical attention to detail, light, naturally aspirated big engine etc. Even Gordon Murray was impressed when evo put him in one.
