I'm interested, what suspension kit did you use to make it handle like that? Can't see anything on your website! I'd buy one in a shot if it were sensible money

Oi Mister, where's the info, spec + pics of that rather barbaric sounding Tuscan powered 110.....want want want
There's not really that much to say. It used to be a carbed 3.5RV8, but the LPG conversion never really worked as it should. After a lot of messing around, the issue was identified as ignition, so the sensible thing to do was to replace the aged mechanical ignition with electronic ignition. So I popped up to Dave Porter's to discuss the options (I also wanted to see what he could do to improve power a bit) and he just happened to have a brand new Tuscan short engine that he was going to fit to his racer before a major accident. It was going to waste and after a little gentle persuasion, I agreed to liberate it from him. So, that's how I ended up with a Tuscan race engine in my Land Rover. Although it's a full blue-printed and cross bolted block, the heads are standard 3.5 and it's got a 3.9 Range Rover cam and the basic EFi injection, so it's way off it's potential, but it is the smoothest running RV8 I've ever heard, and for a Defender is very quick; it'll beat a Boxster away from the lights, but then it loses out when you change to 2nd. Still under 10s to 60 though, which surprises a lot of people when you see it (as it's a nail to look at, painted in NATO green)

Sadly, it failed an MoT nearly 3 years ago, and whilst I've been getting the business up and running, I've not had the time or money to spend on it, so it's sitting in the yard at the moment looking very sorry for itself. I do however have plans to get it back on the road over the winter, so it might be out terrorizing a Porsche near you soon...

You can't normally because the diffs just blow. They are made of particularly weak cheese.

Good to hear from twisted performance on pistonheads!

What further mods did you have to make to the TD5 to get 239bhp? I hadn't heard of any making over 200bhp before this...

Will these mods be available for public sale any time soon?!

THE KIT FITTED TO OUR DEFENDER IS OUR STORM FORCE KIT, IT IS AVAILABLE TO BUY 'OFF THE SHELF' AND PRODUCES BETWEEN 219 AND 224 HP WITHOUT ANY SMOKE. THE KIT INCLUDES: AIR FILTER, INTERCOOLER, TURBO PIPES, EGR REMOVAL, EXHAUST SYSTEM, VV TURBO AND A MAP. SUSPENSION WISE, WE FITTED THE LOWERING SPRINGS, DAMPERS AND SOME SPRING INSERTS ALL AVAILABLE OFF THE SHELF. WE ALSO HAD A TORQUE BIAS REAR DIFF. LAST THING WE FITTED WAS A MATT. WE PUT THIS MATT ON THE DRIVERS SEAT, CONNECTED ITS FEET TO THE PEDALS AND HANDS TO THE STEERING WHEEL, WE INSTALLED A PROGRAMME IN THE MATT TO DRIVE VERY QUICKLY. IT ALL SEEMED TO WORK!

Hi Charlie,

Quick question regarding your remaps.
I have one of your remaps on my 04 freelander, it was done on the saturday night of landrovermax back in july, the guys who fitted it and the k&n filter had some fun when they dropped a allen key into the muddy engine bay..

Anyway, i digress.
After the remap, ive noticed that the car produces a small puff of black smoke under certain loads and if i accelerate through the gears hard, the amber engine warning light pops on for 10 seconds before going off.
I have finally got the last of the engine hoses replaced with silicone ones today as they were splitting but its in getting transmission work done as the VC shat itself taking the ird and rear diff mount out as wellrolleyes
Have yet to see if the hoses have stopped the smoke issue.

Hope you can shed some light on it?
Remap is otherwise superb and has transformed the driveability of the car on motorways and its much easier overtaking . smile

I may be wrong here but I think performance enhancement on diesels will usually result in more smoke. Just a puff is probably a bit of extra fuel when the turbo spins up. No idea on warning lights though...

I can vouch for Charlies kit. I have had over 4 or 5 different companies work on my Defender and I have to say the quality of the kit Charlie/Twisted Performance sell is second to none. The intercooler and exhaust sytems are fantastic! I miss mine so much!

And why not when a rally is run on your own private test facility? The test day is run so that sponsors and friends of the team can come down and have a fun day. there's a lot of car swapping done etc.........

A handful of civilian crews are invited along too.

Ah, so it's a test day now.... wink

hehe having experienced many MoD ranges, there's not many that compare with the gravel of a 'proper' stage. Although Longmoor a couple of years ago was close, Sidbury Hill however is more like an MX track....

Were you on the Trackrod this year Adrian?

Hey how you doing? Freelander with an engine warning light is not all that common, believe it or not. I would suggest getting it plugged in. The most common issues with smoke on the TD4 (other than a puff prior to the turbo spooling) is the crank case breather filter. They are very often not changed during service as they should be. Believe it or not, land rover were fitting new engines a few years ago to vehicle with a combination of the following symptoms, lack of power, oil passing out of the dipstick, reluctance to rev, bad fuel consumption and blue/grey smoke. Turns out, they just had to change the filter on the crankcase. There after, how many miles has it done, whats the cat like? Blocked? Injectors good? Give us a call if you want to chat further. Cheers
