Having owned an original 2002tii I was quite intrigued by the potential of the name coming back with the 1 Series Concept tii but that seemed to have disappeared and then morphed into some upgraded parts that Evo are now trying out on their long termer.
It woud be great to see a light(er) 1'er but I think it will be pretty unlikely imho, a real shame as the tii looked great, even the interior is pretty focused ie no buttons on the steering wheel, no nav etc -

(This will be a good car IF its made)if this car is in the 40k bracket then only to**ers will buy it, you know the type.. bluetooth headsets shirt and tie, oakley sunglasses ect...
ok maybe i was a bit harsh, but all i am saying is i actually like this car, would actually want to buy one if it was launched at a resonable price.

So if someone buys a car that you like, but can't afford, then they are a tosser?
How very odd.

That sounds like half the st drivers I see on the roads, who I would then class tossers.
Why can't we stereotype tossers, because it's clear most of the top-end models in all brands these days just attract 90% tossers, and 10% enthusiasts... if that.

I bet this car already exists in the BMW M factory....
probably this onehttp://www.worldcarfans.com/109101322385/reader-sp...
looks promising but I bet they give it one of their stupid new model names like Mdrive1gayi when something simple like M135i would be perfectly fine

I'd love to see a proper M claass 1 series!
I'd also like to see BMW do a concept for a Mid engined supercar again possibly under the M1 badge again even if they didnt do it (current economical climate) it would still be nice to revive it
i dont think the original M1 got enough credit!!
Another concept? Did you somehow miss the bright orange M1 Homage in 2008? even that concept three cylinder eco car thing they wheeled out recently was quite clearly meant to look like a modern M1.I'd also like to see BMW do a concept for a Mid engined supercar again possibly under the M1 badge again even if they didnt do it (current economical climate) it would still be nice to revive it

Well here's my recommendation to "M" division;
It needs to feel safe and secure so we must start with a minimum kerb weight of 1655kgs. If the standard shell doesn't meet this target, feel free to fill the cavities with lead.
Start with a nice sporty Diesel engine, perhaps chipped to 352bhp at a heady 5100rpm , add a superduper "M Tec" body kit with de rigueur 21" alloys. Mate to a 9-speed automated DSG-a-tronic that can change gear before you've even thought about touching the paddle and promptly does just that. Remember the "POWER" button because I just won't accept a car without one anymore.
As for the chassis, well you can't even contemplate launching an "M" product without ADIFU (Active Drive It For You) and the One should be no exception. Why should I, as its potential buyer, need to worry about actually having to drive it!? That's just not what the "M" synergy is about.
Then, throw in all the toys such as LED uplighters that illuminate all "M" badges, Sat-Nav headrest technology and a plasma screen that greets you with the new "M" division mission statement - "Marketing" - "Making Money" - "Mumbojumbo"
Finally, set Nurburgring lap record to simulate real world driving conditions and start a never ending argument over the legitimacy of the time with Japanese and American rival manufacturers.
People, I give you the M 1-Series D. I'll have mine in Synergy Silver.

BMWs are still great to drive (well, the ones that don't suffer from the dreaded DBW lag), but I can't help but agree with you and think they're injected with too much marketing crap. I feel that BMW should concentrate on what they do best, which is well balanced drivers' cars that are practical enough to use everyday, and M cars which slide the balance further towards driving enjoyment. If it ain't broke...

Engine is rumoured to be more likely to be a 4 cyl turbo rather than a six...?

The 1 series 2 door coupe (not the bread van) looks the best BMW for several years in my mind. There was a fully kitted 135i on the BMW stand at the Silverstone GP and I'd have not for a moment hesitated to have chosen it over an M3.
A Honda DC2 type R inspired 135i based "M" car would be great. I say DC2 inspired as the last CSL was still really lardy and more of an IT geek show off car than a drivers car.

I wouldn't say 1385kg is particularly lardy but something even lighter perhaps with a revvy 4cyl lump would be good fun.A Honda DC2 type R inspired 135i based "M" car would be great. I say DC2 inspired as the last CSL was still really lardy and more of an IT geek show off car than a drivers car.

hopefully the days of bluetooth head sets are over...the cars have the system built in so no need now!! oakleys sun glasses are horrible too! ray bans all the way My car cost 5K and it has a fully integrated bluetooth handsfree kit - what is these people's excuse?
£35k for a 1 series .. a Fully loaded Bathurst VXR8 will be cheaper than a 1M.. At least there will be choice, but its going to be an expensive one.
Personally. I would scrap pretty much all the gizmos and gadgets from Aircon and Stereo, to carpets and door cards. Someone who buys an M is interested in performance, not having rouched leather door cards. I do think they would need to keep a level of sound proofing, and maybe some clip in matts so as to keep it clean. I reckon they could save £5k from not putting all the crap in it and sell it for £32k .. Would certainly get more people interested.

DC2 1160kg
Ok rwd and 2 extra cylinders + turbos will add weight but this will be a car that costs significantly more than the new price of a DC2 so using more alloy components, carbon panels more upto date technology etc it shouldn't be an unrealistic aim. Mazda got the mk3 MX5 in at 1100kg.
