My cheapest was 1100 for a 1.8 Corsa when I was 18, now paying just shy of 1280 for a Saxo VTS (still 18) TPF+T
That's tantamount to rape!
Cheapest I could get and I really wanted a VTS hehe

A mate of mine is just turning 19 and he cannot insure his VTS for less than 2k! frown (with no NCB or accidents)

For the difference in performance though, that's next to nothing. It was the same with my 318is vs my 328i, the insurance was less than 10% more, although still expensive at 1600 a year. The thing is, at 20 I would still be paying 900ish to insure my 1.4 Ibiza, so once again if you take it as a percentage against a "normal" young driver's car, then it's not that terrible..

Look how much the providers vary.. (eta: sorry for the small pic, if you click it is bigger)

That is 2 for around £1170, stepping up to £3200 and then right up to £5k. Called elephant and admiral to confirm they where correct.

Fully comp on an mk5 R32 - Under 25, 0 NCB and license for 5 years

Why do you think there is such a difference in quotes?

£1170 is definitely doable scratchchin and am pleasantly surprised

Something like £220 for the Passat and about the same for the TVR.. Sadly it means I pay about the same for road tax and insurance for a diesel passat and a Chimaera......

I'd assume that they didn't want your business so had the programme give a high number to put you off?

My tin top, Volvo S40 T5, is £440 a year including monthly payments. Thats for me and the mrs, including buisness milage.

The Westfield, which is massively faster than the Volvo, is £160...

Ahh that would make sense. Don't blame them to be honest hehe

At least there are two companies out there who will let be drive an R32

Yup. When I was 28 I was going to get a Volvo S70 - only to be told that they woulnd't insure me as I was under 30............. I didn't ask for a quote on the TVR....

Some companies don't want to know certain demographics and certain vehicles.

1600 for the Alfa, was "forced" by Admiral to pay it all at once, otherwise they'd take a 500 quid deposit and 270 quid a month for an identical policy. confused

Previously 162 per month for the last Alfa, and 177 per month for the little Ibiza.

I paid £325 fully comp on my Saab 9000 Turbo when I renewed in October (it was £260 the previous year). I'm 29 with 10 years NCB. Covers 10k miles and business use plus my wife as a named driver.

My wife's Seicento was £225 for similar cover. Both are insured through Chris Knott with an owner's club discount.

In recent times, I got the insurance on my Mk1 MX5 under £200 comprehensive. Then I bought an Alfa GT ... £400 this year after a lot of searching, up from about £350 last. So much for the benefits of being over 40 (sensible job, <10,000 miles/yr, car is 5 yrs old). Though looking at some of the premiums from 18-20 year olds that have been mentioned I probably shouldn't complain too much
