She may have done it some good. I once read an article on carbon / petrol use, an especially that of other countries. It said that in Libya, petrol is that cheap they feel it is a right (wouldn't accept our taxes anyway). The bus stations are full of buses running all night and it's because they say the engines last longer that way!

I know a lot of wear is done in first 10 mins or so but....

A colleague of mine did the same in a Megane.

We were going out for a big corporate dinner, she drove. You could (can still?) remove the ignition "card" and lock the doors with it, but the engine would still run.

We noticed when we went back out to it and could hear that the engine was still running.
^^ This

In my short time with the Migrane Coupe I had last year the keys (card) stayed in my pocket so if I was distracted when I parked up like if I was on a Bluetooth call. Obviously as soon as I got out the car after said call I realised!
I've almost done it before aswell. It's not quite as ridiculous as most of the replies seem to suggest!

The one I drove had one of those card keys, and it lets you take the card out whilst leaving the enging running. As above, I think I was on the phone or something, and didn't notice the engine was still on until I got out!

Thanks for the reassurance. When questioned closely she reported that the engine is too quiet and that's why she forgot!

She's a brunette and has a Phd so more the absent-minded professor type...

OP, get this tale into the "classics from the missus" thread.
I'd wager your missus is proper dirty. The slow ones usually are. wink

What sort of MPG did she achieve in the 8 hours?!
Um, is that a trick question? Is there a viable (or at least comedy providing) answer other than 'zero'?
Yes.....it would be somewhere in the low 0's.

There is not a chance my missus would tell me she had done that. The piss taking she would get would not be worth it for her....

Our local BMW dealer lent out its new 5 series demo car to a customer last week and as the new 5 is keyless start and the customer wasnt familiar with how it works,he ended up leaving the engine running all day outside his workplace.

I just wondering out of curosity now, how much fuel did it use?
On the clio if you hold the trip computer button in and turn the ignition on it will start the dash dignostics program. My 2ltr clio uses about 1.5lrs of fuel per hour according to this. So it could be upto 10ltrs! Or about £13 worth!
When idling I use 0.67 Gallons per hour apparently. Which is about 3 litres an hour.

Does she have L & R on her shoes and B & F on her knickers.
There was a joke a while ago about the blonde who thought that was why she had a "C&A" label in her knickers

I wouldn't worry about it, lorry drivers leave their engines idling for hours so it can't be that bad.
