Just remembered something else. While changing the horrible MSport suspension for something more suited to UK roads, I found this:

Somehow, a cigarette filter tip had found its way into the top mount. As far as I know there had been no suspension work done by either of the previous owners since the car was bought new in 2007, so god knows how long it had been there! hehe

My Skoda Octy VRS has a tiny, '3rd' sun visor above the mirror that folds down just like the full size ones wither side.

In so many cars I've had before, sod's law dictates that even though you have both big sun visors down, the bloody sun still gets you through the tiny gap above the rear view mirror.

Well NO MORE! Not in my Skoda anyway! biggrin
You've just added another reason to my 'Reasons I should have bought that VRS instead' list.
My 1997 XM has one too, but it's long enough to reach both visors. The first car I have next that doesnt have this wonderful marvel will get a bit of cardboard taped behind the rear mirror!

I drove my girlfriends Golf for the first time last summer and parked it in Putney; I went back in the morning to pick it up and drop it home.

2 hours later she called me up screaming at me telling me I've broken her car. She told me what was wrong and that the AA were on the way. I decided to go home, took the keys and started the car immediately, to her amazement.

In 13 years she has never used a steering lock; or knew how it worked or that her car even had one! "THE F****G KEY WON'T TURN"....

I've discovered that if you drop anything behind the passenger seat of a Exige, it becomes part of the car. You're never going to be able to get it out again. No matter how much you swear.

yes Same as in my old VX220. When I took the passenger seat out I remember finding some loose change, various pay and display tickets, a few lighters and a mobile phone.

I only found out the other day that the "Home" light option (where your car turns its lights on for x amount of time after you unlock/lock it) on my 911 only seems to turn the lights on when the car senses it's dark outside. This is slightly confusing because my car doesn't have an option for automatic headlights.

Similarly, I've also found the puncture repair kit after a bit of spirited driving meant the front panel in the boot became detached. I never knew it was there.

Put the back seats down on the Mazda 3 for the first time the other day. Whilst doing it, I noticed that the centre-rear seatbelt has a little 'anchor' clip as well as the main one. Also noticed that this seat belt goes all the way back into the boot.

Ooh I might have to take it out and see what treasure is under it! I know there's at least one pen and a bolt from my roof.

I just bought a 4 year old Volvo XC90 from a colleague.

I was reading through the spec sheet after buying and pointed out to him that it was cool it had a stand-alone Webasto engine/cabin diesel heater.

What........ said he.

He bought the bloody thing new and didnt even realise he had specced a diesel heater hehe It came as part of a package apparently!
Excellent bit of kit. Does yours pre-heat the coolant as well as the air going into the cabin?

Not exactly a 'feature' of the car, but my S15 Silvia had a Billy Joel CD in the CD player fresh from Japan hehe Also noticed the typical Japanese extras, like toll booth card reader holders, flare holders and so on.

Took me a while to realise that the radio antenna is actually in the back window as well. Spent a while looking for that hehe

Fab VRS

To put the back seats down you have to remove the headrests. I've always left them rolling around or taken them into the house....until now! smile

VW Touran..

After about 5 years of ownership and 2 or 3 whacked heads (mine) on the raised tailgate... Discovered you can push it up a further 3 or 4 inches.

Lower stop seems to be to prevent damage in car parks. (And yes, there is a sticker on the boot alluding to this fact) smile

Found a way to set the mirrors not to auto dip when selecting reverse on my E38. There is a rather generously sized button for just that, adjacent to the buttons that adjust the mirrors as it turned out...

After 3 years of owning the car, the gf found that if you lock the doors, the filler cap locks.

Cool story etc etc.

With the level of mechanical sympathy involved, this meant the fuel filler cap was now on the floor...
clipped back in no problems though)

Nearly 3 years into ownership only found out on the RS6 that if you push the sunroof rotary dial up it tilts the sunroof, before then I thought all it could do was slide!

There is also a way to do that on Mercs, I think you leave the button to select left or right adjust set to left (or right I can't recall)

Not seeing any front fog lights fitted to my 2000 Audi A3 I just guessed the car didn't have any...so never looked for a button for them..
It's only after having the car for 6 months I noticed that if you pull the light switch out one clip the front fog lights come on and two clicks the rear come on.
I hadn't realised that the front fogs are built into the headlight beam unlike the A4 which had them fitted into the lower front bumper,

went out with a car dealer mate who had just taken a countach in part ex, we went out to play, needed to put petrol in it. We spent 30 minutes looking for the filler, eventually went into a shop bought a car magazine, found a dealer who had one for sale, called him and asked him where it was.

meanwhile much mirth from the punters at the petrol station as we had bonnet, boot, doors everything open. Turns out it is under one of the earlike intakes on the roof
