Well here we go.

Hi,

I saw you mention they have an LSD.

My Dad just bought a similar one as a snotter.

I drove it after he complained that it's lethal if you accelerate hard out of a junction whilst turning and I was shiocked how bad it is - I thought it was fault - I'm now wondering if it's the diff.

Does yours do similar ?

Given the current mismatch of Bridgestone/Landsail on the front - it does have very good traction at the front. Which means that yes it may fell a bit odd if your not used to a car that really pulls through its front wheels. LSD is on the 1.8 VTi models so if its that hes got, I suspect its just what I describe.

The first part of the bill has a timing belt kit.

^it'll be a man with bigger plums than I that buys that.

One of the PH writers estimated a realistic 50p a mile to run one of these. Therefore it'll also be a man with bigger pockets than I that buys that.

Love them though.

God no - it's not got good traction.

Dad thinks it's torque steer but I've had far more powerful FWD cars that don't do this and it's fine in a straight line.

If you turn the wheel as you're exiting a junction and then accelerate you'd better be holding the wheel with both hands because it will wrench it to full lock as it accelerates.

The disco? I've been mad enough to buy 2 of those - both nice, low milers.

They did 14mpg, however or wherever I drove. They were usually on an AA flatbed so it didn't really matter though.

Talk to me about cool estates.

It needs to be big, bargain basement and fit my surfy/outdoor image. (!)

I loved that Volvo 960 earlier this year but Glasgow was just too ruddy far for a £900 car. Any other suggestions? Also, I'd like to realistically hit 35mpg.

Old Passat TDI estate, some banded steelies, and some coilovers?

Xantia estate. Massive, cheap, super comfy. Good old fashioned diesel engines.

Or theres a few Subaru Legacy estates on ebay, dead slow 2 ltr ones but should make for a right old battlebus with 4wd party piece in thr winter. The low powered ones MIGHT do 35mpg? Dunno.

IME the non-turbos are nearly as bad on fuel as the turbos. Certainly not GOOD on fuel, at any rate!

Calling all shedding beards........

I'm having a change of heart and looking for a new motor in BB terrority (may even a little above - say up to 2k)

I want a 4x seater cabrio, but trying to get something that could be/looks like an appreciating, considered choice rather than a total turd. I know trying to get as original as possible is key to this!
Dpn't care what engine, what fuel, what colour - just 4x seats, soft top and auto.

My shortlist is quite short after a good look around the usual sites - so what do i need to be checking on the following?

E36 Cab - 323 or 328
CLK 200,230,320 (W201) - Rust, rust and rust i know
Saab 93 - either late 02/03 plate or newer shape
Audi A4 (if I can find one in the price range)

^^^^^^^

Not quite in budget (<£1k) but can see why it'd appeal to some...

Would have to pay me to drive it however....
