RE: Exhaust fakery: Tell Me I'm Wrong
Discussion
Pipes on one side per bank of cylinders, with a maximum of two tips per side, for me. Or more precisely, once the exhaust headers have fully merged, they should never split again except into two adjacent tail-pipes.
And no, my own car doesn't meet those rules.
ETA: At least that Octavia above will encourage the owners to keep their DPF working properly. It'd look very silly with one side all sooted up and the other clean.

Resurrecting an old thread because I was shocked to see Mercedes take fake exhausts to a new level on certain models of the new Mercedes C-Class. Just some crappy plastic chrome trim apparently intended to convey the vague impression of a twin exhaust while, on the C180 I saw, a solitary mild steel downturned exhaust pipe was quite easily visible exiting under the car.

nothing new they have done this on the E class too, the jag xf has it tooThis is the greatest number of tail pipes I've ever had on a car. They work though, and I don't feel any need to act mature so I really don't care if anyone thinks ill of them, the colour, the carbon fibre diffuser thing or the big carbon fibre wing. It's rather good fun to drive and life is far too serious nowadays anyway, with far too many people taking themselves way more seriously than I could ever take them.
Unfortunately my car falls foul of exhaust excess too.
I'm a sucker for symmetry therefore I feel it looks acceptable on a sports car.
And being a transverse I4 it hardly requires extra piping
But it's still too much and on the later 'yota engined cars, Lotus solved it partially by using a central twin pipe exhaust.
But can I make a point and says fake diffusers look equally naff?

Especially on SUV's it's completely pointless. I give you the Ford Kuga:
