Nice
This is on the TDI version only. The TSI uses both exits.

Cars are allowed one pipe per 100bhp with a maximum of four.

All these low powered Audis, Citroens, Kias, etc with two massive pipes are just lame.

Pipes on one side per bank of cylinders, with a maximum of two tips per side, for me. Or more precisely, once the exhaust headers have fully merged, they should never split again except into two adjacent tail-pipes.

And no, my own car doesn't meet those rules. hehe

ETA: At least that Octavia above will encourage the owners to keep their DPF working properly. It'd look very silly with one side all sooted up and the other clean.

Our van only has 180bhp and two pipes but they are completely hidden from view; phew.
The BM complies; 320bhp, two pipes.

Resurrecting an old thread because I was shocked to see Mercedes take fake exhausts to a new level on certain models of the new Mercedes C-Class. Just some crappy plastic chrome trim apparently intended to convey the vague impression of a twin exhaust while, on the C180 I saw, a solitary mild steel downturned exhaust pipe was quite easily visible exiting under the car.

Pretty sure the XF exhausts are real. They have big trim finishers but 99.9% sure on the cooking models the gases actually exit therr. On the V8s the exhausts are real with no doubt at all.

That has 3 pipes on the other side too! 6 for 750cc! hehe If there is a reason why Benelli designed it like that I'd love to know! laugh

Does that Ferrari maybe have a custom/race side exit system? Don't these normally have dual pipes with dual exits at the back?

More exhaust shame spotted at Goodwood.

Those trademark RS oval outlets ...

... are but shallow trims, not connected to anything. frown

I think the V10 M5 is the best example I've seen of justifying 4 tailpipes:

cool

A sad 'evolution' that the current M5's is synthesised.

I think we can forgive the 450hp 4.2V8 RS4 for it's twin exhaust trims can't we? The overall look is pretty good.

So both my RS Clio 182 and S2 Elise break the rules. I think this proves rules are there to be broken as both look absolutely right as they are.

This is the greatest number of tail pipes I've ever had on a car. They work though, and I don't feel any need to act mature so I really don't care if anyone thinks ill of them, the colour, the carbon fibre diffuser thing or the big carbon fibre wing. It's rather good fun to drive and life is far too serious nowadays anyway, with far too many people taking themselves way more seriously than I could ever take them.

Unfortunately my car falls foul of exhaust excess too.
I'm a sucker for symmetry therefore I feel it looks acceptable on a sports car.
And being a transverse I4 it hardly requires extra piping angel
But it's still too much and on the later 'yota engined cars, Lotus solved it partially by using a central twin pipe exhaust.

But can I make a point and says fake diffusers look equally naff?

Renault Megane Estate:

Peugeot 308:

Especially on SUV's it's completely pointless. I give you the Ford Kuga:
