Avergae Joe: Is that a Vauxhall Calibre (I have a Monaro)
Vauxhall service dept: Do you mean a Vauxhall Movano?
Many years ago I put an excellent part worn tyre on my car. Cost £30, which was around 25% of the new price.
Average Joe: Why on earth would you trust a part worn tyre? That's madness.
Me: Ever buy a second hand car?
Average Joe: Yes
Me: Did you immediately buy four new tyres?
Average Joe: No....why?
Average Joe: People who drive cars that get 20mpg are killing the planet
Me: Do you really think we'll stop burning petrol before it's all used up? And if not, getting 60mpg means you'll just drive that it further before you kill the planet.
Average Joe: Electric cars are totally green

I'm impressed the Average Joe has even HEARD of the Vauxhall Calibre!! They are pretty rare cars (only made 500, apparently). A Cavalier with a bodykit if I remember rightly.I was once offered a convertible mk2 cavalier with the Calibre bodykit on it - the only reason the kit was on was to mask the terminal rot which was left/right/centre!

I have a picture somewhere of the Rover 'V6' in a development car. I'll try and find it if you like. I also have lots of pics of the Metro during the reshell. Mail me if you want to see them, I shan't derail this thread anymore..
Actually, I'm quite interested in the whole thing, development car and all. Don't suppose you fancy starting a thread on the subject?Super Slo Mo said:

Here it is!aka_kerrly said:
Like your knowledge of 6R4s, you're bang on, it's a mk2 Cavalier which has a Irmscher bodykit and SRI 130 running gear.

I should not want that. I take it the original wheels were less showy though?I was once offered a convertible mk2 cavalier with the Calibre bodykit on it - the only reason the kit was on was to mask the terminal rot which was left/right/centre!

And what about when your new tyres become part worn? I'm guessing you wouldn't trust them either???

Do you two want to get a room so we can get back on with the main thread, please?
Or shall we rename it "stupid arguments PHers have..."?
I'm very sorry to have caused you to post that. 'Stupid argument' is a bit strong though. As you can see I was merely trying to correct some very incorrect information which is often bandied about on the internet and repeated by people like our farmer friend. As this is a car-enthusiasts site I'd have thought that correcting mis-information was a worthy passtime. Or shall we rename it "stupid arguments PHers have..."?
Anyway, no worries...and much kudos for the car!

I just received this email from a friend-of-a-friend, it immediately reminded me of this thread.
You're a massive forumla 1 fan right? What kind of go-karting type places would you reccomend for someone who is also a massive fan (he wants to bum michael schumacher, lol) Ive seen one in letchworth but I think it might be too child like? Or maybe even can you drive a forumla 1 car? Or a ferrari? Not too expensive though, I'm looking at around MAX £100 but ideally less.
1,000,000 PHer points offered to he/she who writes the best reply.

Literally not but 15 minutes ago seen a B reg Cav GLX (according to the boot badge) rocking what appeared to be an imitation of the calibre kit minus the boot spoiler in Dewsbury!I was once offered a convertible mk2 cavalier with the Calibre bodykit on it - the only reason the kit was on was to mask the terminal rot which was left/right/centre!

Further to the thread running in GG.
"The Toyota GT86 advert glamorises reckless driving"
Yea i mean it just encourages people to drive the edge of the world doesn't it? Don't Toyota know it's really dangerous to cross the streams and break the space-time continuum? People will just be copying it left, right and centre in their budget sports cars. Before we know it they'll expose the matrix and we'll all be doomed. He does get the back out on a city road though... but ffs it's a cartoon."The Toyota GT86 advert glamorises reckless driving"
Something said by an apparent petrol head:
"Why do M cars depreciate so much quicker than AMG's?"
He has recently purchased a C63 AMG coupe, brand new, after losing a shed load of money on a 6 month old E90 M3 that he kept for under a year.
Prior to that, he had a 6 month old E320cdi coupe that he lost a st load on after less than a year (whilst telling me that he anticipated hardly losing anything on it in the year he planned to keep it)...
I don't think he's quite got the hang of this yet... and is in for the shock of his life if he thinks AMG's don't depreciate very much!
But someone's gotta keep the sales people in their jobs eh!
