Had one of these back in the day.
Filled with red diesel all the time.
Never let me down.
Brilliant wee car.

I cam across this on ebay, and whilst I'm not really in a position right now, it has really piqued my interest - I didnt know the E21 was made as early as 1976

Can't seem to link a picture, apologies

The Magna Carta is only one page though.

The Golf is in lovely condition. Even the driver's side seat bolster looks in good nick. How is the filler neck and the firewall where the clutch pedal goes through?
Ok Encyclopedia Britannica then biggrin

Filler neck and fuel tank just been replaced.

Area where clutch pedal is great.

Paintwork is good, little bit if lacquer peel and some rust on near side sill starting to show. It's been well maintained and is a joy to drive.

I got in it at the weekend with Jeans on and a button caught in the Bolster and tore it! frown Gutted would not describe it. You know how fine the cloth becomes and they are easily snagged.

Wonderful.

Be interesting to know the amount when hammer fell ? wink
I can tell you that the hammer fell at £7280 in September 2012 at the previous auction. I paid significantly less at Carfest South auction.

Bummer. frown

They always go though, so it's not as if it'll stand out if you sell it. It might be worth seeing if a local upholsterer can help.

Lovely little 1.6.

I wonder if the hydragas is knackered, it looks to be sitting too low to me.

It's grim , but somehow I like it.

Imagine buying that new. What a depressing thought.

Not grim at all I'm afraid.
I bought a cheap one second hand back in 1994 as a run around and apart from it's oil consumption it was a great car.
AS was the Marina 1300, 1.0 Talbot Sunbeam, 1300 Avenger, 1300 Cortina Mk2, etc that I also had as run around cars to supplement the Caterham.
BTW the oil consumption wasn't expensive, I used to keep the stuff from oil changes on other cars and put it in the Montego.....

The more I follow this thread, the more I think my next car will be a classic. Simpler and easier to work on and with careful choice the performance will be adequate.

So I've got someone that can look at this for me, yet the seller can't be bothered to send the photos of the damage before it was repaired, nor return any of my calls/texts. I bet he complains to his mates when the car is still for sale in a months time too banghead
