They don't still make the Brera, and there's no car with a V6 now.Don't know much about the GM lump (apparently had an Alfa head), but it was unpopular in the Brera. Much of this might have been down to the weight of the car though I suppose.
Alfa have access to the Chrysler Pentastar engine which was introduced in 2011 (modern) and I've read that it's meant to be good. Going by Wikipedia it looks like it makes 300bhp in 3.6L form.

OK thanks, interesting info. The addition of multi-air should make it interesting. Do you know if they are doing anything about making this engine sound nicer?
The manifold and intake changes sound promising but current Alfa's are all far too quiet, even the "sporty ones", hopefully they'll make this sound as good as it looks. Yes a 4 pot is never going to sound as good as an NA V6 but it is possible to make them sound good.
Oh and Angry jock, no need to live up to your name. I understand you are a fan of this car\Alfa but no need to take every question as a personal insult. Also name dropping stopped impressing me about 20 years ago

Don't know if you have ever heard a MiTo QV Multi-Air engine or an Abarth version but they pop quite nicely. From what I have been told both induction noise and exhaust will be "tuned" in a way that suits the car. ALFA won't allow this to sound dull. They might even use an exhaust valve system linked to the DNA switch
Seriously though ALFA are spending an awful lot of time and money making sure this is right and getting Maserati to build it means that it will be built right.
I think that they are building a car like this to relaunch (yes we have heard it all before) the brand properly in the US and Europe will allow things like the new Spider, Giulia and 166 replacement to be right too. God knows it's about time! ALFA have admitted that they cannot afford to get it wrong.
I think the configuration of the 4C will be very much where we will see all cars moving in the future - extensive use of composites, downsized turbocharged engines, automatic transmissions. Not saying I like it, but that's where it is going, and I think this car is meant to showcase Alfa's future instead of harking back to its past.
I would be happy to see it with a NA or supercharged four and a manual gearbox. I don't really like the sound of a four, but I would accept it for the same reason that I accept it in the Elise. Ain't going to happen, though.

Porsche may have no choice other than to do that soon (for better or worse).I had the impression that manufacturers are currently miles way from the fleet emissions targets which are coming into force some time in the next decade? To get to those targets I would have thought that some of the gains absolutely have to come from cars being lighter (as well as improvements in IC engines, hybrids etc). Lightness would come from a combination of downsizing and lighter materials.

Hopefully not! Cars like the 4C and Elise mean that you can chuck in a manufacturer's lowest emission drivetrain (whatever form it may take in the next decade) and still have something more fun, interesting and quick than a small hatch (and below the fleet average). I love this car... but those headlights... what the hell are they thinking! Lets the whole car down.
ditto with the mirrors too.
The other minor issue is that there isn't really anywhere suitable for the front number plate.
I still want to love this Alfa though, its just not quite as good looking as it promised to be at earlier stages.

Hadn't even noticed the lights at first glance. Surely that design wont make production?!?
It's the production version! The concept version didn't have them. All they need to do is sink them slightly and cover the area with perspex (as they are in most cars).Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
