Whilst it's not 'his' space, I'm sure that, if you lived on a road like that, you'd soon get hacked off with randoms sticking their car outside your house and sodding off to wherever.

I once rented a house on a street which was used as commuter parking - you'd often have to park your own car a number of streets away - or, even worse, park in a pay & display, as commuters were taking up all the spaces in the road.

Perhaps. But I wouldn't be a knob and block them in so bad they had to ask you to move the car just so they could leave.

Fine, then don't buy/ rent a house without allocated parking/drive/garage if it's going to be a bone of contention. It's a bit like buying a house under a flightpath then complaining about the noise.

Sometimes you have no choice and / or the rules in other streets change once you've moved in and have pushed the problem from another street to yours.

Ultimately, councils need to ensure proper provision of residents permits where there is contention between residents and commuters.

To the knob jocket in the Qashqai. I overtook a lorry in an NSL on the R1. Got back over to my own side of the road to realise the Quashiqai coming the the other way was flashing me. I had enough time on my own side of the road to choose between my usual how many flashes can I get back, or a cheery wave. I went with the cheery wave, which they saw and gave me the wker back. People are weird.

Also another knob jockey in his Golf R (or other "fast" Golf). Coming off of a roundabout under the A5 in MK, it feeds from 2 lanes down to 1. He clearly didn't like me carrying more speed off of the roundabout meaning I could slot in between him and the car in front. More horn and lights. Shouldn't have left a gap if you didn't want me to fill it.

What is it about Milton Keynes that means it's a by word for crap driving.
I've had this twice in the last month. Both occasions were completely safe overtakes, with 4-5 seconds for the car coming the other way to meet me after pulling in. Firstly a fat council type lass in an ancient Ford Galaxy having a fit with hand signals, and secondly a twerp in a Golf flashing and giving me the finger. I'm not in the habit of risking head-ons, utter morons!
I would argue that 4/5 seconds is insufficient space when travelling at speed.

(Is there a maths wizzard out there who can calculate time/distance etc?)
3 seconds at 120mph (both cars closing at 60) is just over 160 metres.

The highway code says the braking distance at 60 is 80 metres.

Return to your side and count to 3 is enough time to stop with 1970s drum brakes and tyres.

3 seconds is generous but I'd agree it's a good target to aim for. I'd go down to 1.5 seconds in the right situation.
Thank you, IE more than enough. These people just see someone overtaking and presume they must be dangerous, utter idiots!

Like the silly bint last night. Leaving a 30 zone in to NSL both me and the car behind overtook her safely, as she was driving at 20mph. looked in the rearview to see her giving a seatbelt hand signal.... in front of her young kids.
If you don't want to be overtaken try driving at an appropriate speed.
So.... If there WAS so much time to overtake and pull in at double the speed limit, WHY did the guy flash then?

There's obviously a third dynamic at work here.

I'm not sure where you're getting the 'double the speed limit' part. At no point did I state my speed, the vehicle I was driving can't go double the speed limit. I was overtaking a 40ish mph car, maybe hitting between 60-70 during the manoeuvre. On both occasions there was then 4-5 seconds before the vehicles past the other way. What am I missing, or what are you presuming?

The fact you are now talking about payback suggests to me you are the sort who would. Don't be surprised to get back and find the air stolen from your tyres.

It's a rhetoric statement suggesting that if I wasn't a decent human then I probably would be tempted to do it back.

Probably doesn't overtake much. Anyone who overtakes in the UK today is familiar with the flash because you overtook brigade.

Parked in a public parking bay this morning outside a house on a public street. You get where this is going right...

Got back to my car 2 hours later to find it completely blocked in. I was on the end bay (the red square) and was behind a Mini (the green square). I got back to find a car parked in the blue square about 15 cm away from my bumper. The mini was also too close so I was stuck.

Took a guess that the car who had come and blocked me in belonged to the house I was parked in front of. Knocked on the door, asked if it was his and then got told to move it. He didn't look very happy.

It's a shame that when I park in that road, it's obvious where I'm going or next time I'd be tempted to block him and disappear for 2 hours as payback.
Order! Order! Do I spy a single yellow line there? No parking until after 1800 hours.

Thank you fellow PHers.

Always interesting to get opinions from those who know. I rarely overtake these days, except VERY slow moving, even 4/5 seconds seems no time at all in our modern motoring world.

Yes you do. I was in a bay. Knoblet was on the yellow. Although it's Sunday. So they don't count.

Today I mostly had a ride on my motorcycle and crossed a single lane bridge with a sign like this http://www.cusack.co.uk/Catalogue/Road-Signage/Tem... on it with me having priority. A female with what apppeared to be a husband and child drove toward me instead of yielding and insisted I moved, which I didn't. She made me think knob.

Also the tool on a BMW R 2 cylinder thingy with the regulation POLITE vest on and no gloves. He also made me think knob.

I saw a guy in a typical BMW "M3" (i.e. boggo 3-series with a badge added) turn down my street and immediately honk at an old fella on a bicycle, because he had the temerity to be cycling along when Mr Not-An-M3 was so desperate to make progress, and parked cars left too little room to overtake.

dhead. It was literally 30 yards away from the end of the parked cars anyway, at which point there was enough room for him to pass. Bloke's got as much right to be there as you, and this is a narrow street that runs parallel to the big main road anyway. Use that if you want to go fast.

A big 'you're a tw@t' to the gent in a Ferrari 360 Spyder that I nearly had a head on with this eve. entering a (30 limit) blind corner I saw a 4x4 coming the other way turning off. Mr 360 behind, instead of waiting a second to progress, decided to whip round him. Hence me suddenly finding Modenas finest in my lane coming straight at me. One very swift manoeuvre by him resulted in us missing each other by about two metres. Would have cost you a lot more than me mate!

Neighbour's idiot son being dropped home after the pub by his idiot mate, who then leaves his car with the ENGINE RUNNING, outside my window, for NEARLY AN HOUR. At midnight.
I couldn't care less if he wants to chat to his mates, shag his girlfriend/boyfriend, snapchat his kebab, smoke crack or whatever else it is the youth of today like to get up to, as long as he does it with the engine off.

Fortunately another neighbour went out and politely told him to do one.
