It sounds picky, but I'd get some leather cleaner on the drivers seat as well, I took one look at the picture and my first though was it looks dirty!
lol, i know, i agree.. however no amount of leather cleaner will get rid of it unfortunately. Believe me ive tried! It's a shame as that and the steering wheel are the only give away's to it's age. Rest of the car is spot on!

Whoa, that's a lot of decent car for the money! Is that the 'replace pads' warning light on in the 3rd shot?!

Yep, front brake wear warning. (I assume it doesn't have sensors on the rears - my 99 A6 doesn't)

Nice E46, I would have considered it if insurance hadn't been £2000. frown

Good fun whilst it lasts, but not one for budget shedding IMO.
My 1.8T manual A6 of similar vintage isn't great for budget shedding - anything more complex terrifies me!

Im fairly certain that particular engine and gearbox combo has a stunning propensity to throw wobblers resulting in bills for multiples of its current asking price.

Good fun whilst it lasts, but not one for budget shedding IMO.
You'd have to be nuts to consider tuning one of those, in that specific driveline combination.

I might think about it with a manual Avant though!

You just don't see decrepit old stheaps like that about any more. When I was little junk like that was everywhere, stuck together with parcel tape and billowing out stenchy blue smoke. Now its all white Audi's. For no objective reason, its a shame.

Totally agree. I miss seeing old junk on the roads. It's ugly as sin, and probably slow as hell, but it's far more interesting than the everyday rep mobiles and lookalike hatchbacks that fill the roads today.

These can be had cheap these days
I just bought this off scumtree for £750 with a few months tax and test and with only 64000 on the clock

It has a few marks on the body but is quite a tidy little car but the abs light came on yesterday so it looks like the Vagcom lead is coming out..
Cheap car, see them go for more with double the miles. Shouldn't be hard to fix either
I managed to sort out the abs light issue within 2 minutes of playing around with A cheap VAGCOM lead and the sill is now sprayed and looks great and it's only cost me about £15 to repair smile
Is this the model where you have to take the exhaust manifold off to change the spark plugs?
I'd be intrested in talking to you about your wisdom on these. thought about picking one up
I gave the car a service the other day but didn't change the plugs as the car runs really well and hearing about the problems with coil packs on VAG motors of this vintage I thought I would leave that area well alone.

I also have an A4 which has the same set up with the manifold over the plugs and changing them isn't really an issue as long as you have a decent tool set the plugs are accessible but I could be proved wrong..

As for the general running of the car it's just like the advert says just like a golf but with the beetle it doesn't feel quite as well screwed together as the Golf and some of the beetle switches are a bit flimsy in comparison.
But it may just be my car as I've had to change a variety of cheap switches in it to get things working properly where as my fathers golf of the same vintage still feels and drives like a new car.

But I will say the seats are really comfortable to sit in.

God damn it! 6 months ago I was looking for one of these an most within a reasonable distance were ropey, ended up with a 2.6 Omega instead.
This ones had all the usual weak spots already addressed. And I live in Reading.

Must resist.....

I just paid one hundred english pounds for this.

Got a broken spring, needs front pads and a service, but full Ford history believe it or not, nearly a full tank of go go juice, and tax and mot til September.

No idea what I'm going to do with it yet, but I couldn't say no for the money.

RAC had to take the front bumper off to get it on the low loader as the splitter was less than 1cm off the ground due to the broken spring.

It is the single most embarrassing car I've driven though!

Take the chav tat off it and put it on eBay. Use money to buy OEM bits and tidy up and you should have yourself at least £1k profit.

ETA: Step 2 use profit to buy a decent shed off this thread.
