How the hell did you get that for £100?

Bargain
My colleague is emigrating, she was going to weigh it in.

Its actually a bloody good little motor. £500 will see it tip top. Bodykit is off already.

The wife has taken a liking to it, so I suspect we will use it as a run around to keep miles off our Galaxy.

I'm not particularly flush with cash but could use a set of wheels, if there were a similarly crappy old little car kicking around for under a hundred quid up here I'd be on it.

Where'd you find it..?

These can be had cheap these days
I just bought this off scumtree for £750 with a few months tax and test and with only 64000 on the clock

It has a few marks on the body but is quite a tidy little car but the abs light came on yesterday so it looks like the Vagcom lead is coming out..
Cheap car, see them go for more with double the miles. Shouldn't be hard to fix either
I managed to sort out the abs light issue within 2 minutes of playing around with A cheap VAGCOM lead and the sill is now sprayed and looks great and it's only cost me about £15 to repair smile
Is this the model where you have to take the exhaust manifold off to change the spark plugs?
I'd be intrested in talking to you about your wisdom on these. thought about picking one up
I gave the car a service the other day but didn't change the plugs as the car runs really well and hearing about the problems with coil packs on VAG motors of this vintage I thought I would leave that area well alone.

I also have an A4 which has the same set up with the manifold over the plugs and changing them isn't really an issue as long as you have a decent tool set the plugs are accessible but I could be proved wrong..

As for the general running of the car it's just like the advert says just like a golf but with the beetle it doesn't feel quite as well screwed together as the Golf and some of the beetle switches are a bit flimsy in comparison.
But it may just be my car as I've had to change a variety of cheap switches in it to get things working properly where as my fathers golf of the same vintage still feels and drives like a new car.

But I will say the seats are really comfortable to sit in.
Thanks for that

Its safer than a Sports Direct knock-off mountain bike, which is the only other personal transport available for £70!

Well after a thorough run through on the Fiesta, most of the bodykit was just bonded on and has been removed quite sucessfully.

4 drill holes in the front bumper - I'll diy fill and paint these, they are on the lower part so will be fine.

Lights, induction kit and exhaust will all be sold to fund original replacements.

A bit of maintenance required to get it tip top:
Major service
Cambelt
Front springs
Track rod ends
Rear brakes were siezed, destroyed a bearing (and a hub puller frown ), worst case I need new hubs and shoes.
Front pads (disks are absolutely fine).
Replace nearside mirror
Aerial mast and base
O/S front fog

And maybe source some different wheels and tyres.

A quick mop and a hoover out and about £500 will see it worth £1200, but I think we may keep it.

Staying on the subject of rare convertibles, this feels very cheap given how so few of them are about - looks like it's been cared for too...

Looks fine to me. Slight gap between the windscreen and roof, but you can hardly tell.

You just don't see decrepit old stheaps like that about any more. When I was little junk like that was everywhere, stuck together with parcel tape and billowing out stenchy blue smoke. Now its all white Audi's. For no objective reason, its a shame.
Is it wrong that I'd much rather see old ste like that on the road than another brand new leased Audi?

In fact I think I'd rather own one!

Well, maybe I wouldn't go that far..

I do believe Sir just found a bargain!

Probably a bit turd to drive though with the auto.
i had the generation before that with the auto, to drive it was a nice quick GT, but the auto box died- got a recon at more than the cars price- 2 months later only reverse worked.

I'm not sure why, but that car's really got me wishing that I had another parking space at home, good spot!
