so the name TVR is out for the next few years, way to expensive...

what name could you use to start without that name but in the way TVR is...

can the name, as a badge, TreVoR be used till that time?

if so, then also we have to come up with new names for the cars that come out...

you can use Internet and all TVR members/fans to vote for a name of a new TreVoR car, which is best to choose...

that way you also keep fans in the game/involved.

if (and I think it is) the name TVR is out of reach (to expensive) then TreVoR could be possible...or?

Or could it simply be called/badged TVR2 or T.V.R scratchchin

It would need to be clean and scan well as well as linking to the heritage.

The three relevant owners are TW, ML & PW. I couldn't think of an arrangement of these letters that would work.

But, the cars are from Blackpool and have always had the nickname BlackPool Rocket so I wondered if this would work:

Picking names for companies is a nightmare!

You couldn't use anything that was similar in look or sound to TVR as it would if challenged (in this case highly likely) as an attempt at 'passing off' so a big nono

You also need to be able to acquire the .com and .co.uk addresses in these days so a quick google of BPR reveals:

http://www.bpr.co.uk/pages/home

and

http://www.bpr.com/

so either no chance or more expense.

Minor details but all necessary to succeed.

Sell the concept to Haymarket, with a JL tie up and send me the invoice for my PH Cerbera2 (or PHM for PistonHead Motors if you want to keep the triple digit thing going). 450 horses would be fine to start with but could you make the +2 slightly bigger as my kids are starting to struggle in the back of the Cerb now.

I'm aware of this.

I wonder what would happen to this company if it all started to kick off?

The domains have a standard work around as you'd add 'automotive' or similar as others do.

Trademark shouldn't be a shocker as I doubt either of those firms have worldwide or all industries status, if any.

But certainly choosing a brand is an absolute nightmare.

Re being chased for infringement over the TVR brand that would certainly be interesting.

Legally TvR have publicly stated that they are no longer in the automotive industry so that is weak.

They also moved out of Blackpool while they were still a car company.

And their image rights are expired.

I wouldn't want to build a Griff in the old factory and call it a TreVoR but I reckon just building a car with a different brand but on the same ethos would be free to do so.

I did like that Sagaris Shooting Brake though. biggrin

Modern chassis, tuneable LS lump (still prefer the Jag unit;)) and a simple, clean but classy and stylish interior please.

Try saying that without sounding like a queen with a speech impediment though.

Legally they still own the trademark rights to use the name in the automotive industry regardless of what he's publicly said this week, he could easily ring up Steve Cropley next week and say I've changed my mind.

Anyway all irrelevant unless someone comes along with the cash and catches him at the right time with the right offer.

Even then I'm not sure he'd sell it, he says he's open to offers but I think there's a hugh amount of ego, spite & bitterness towards the UK in this and he won't want to see someone else succeed where he's failed.

I think that is right. I'm sure he blames the workers and the owners for the demise, rather than the fact it was bust when he bought it and he didn't have enough money to turn that around.

He certainly seemed to think that the last incarnation would work without the support of English customers.

I can't see it being sold as I can't see anyone thick enough to part with the money he would want.

A clean slate is the only way forward but I can't see an issue with copying the image?

Funny, I keep reading the thread title as "No more tears for TVR".

Ironically this perhaps better fits the reality now that the agony seems to finally be over.

And didn't want to listen to wiser heads than himself too.

I'm not sure a Sagaris2 with an Audi 4.2 V8 would necessarily have worked, but it would have been very interesting to see how it went. VW/Audi Group may even have done a Lamborghini on TVR in the end.

If someone did a TVR-alike, does it matter if it has no links to TVR at all in name or continuity as long as the Ethos remains, i.e. a massively fast, fairly simple, stunning looking sports car.

Though I do love the idea of an "RVT" in the mirror

No you don't, because you would use BPRCARS or AUTOS.BPR or whatever, it isn't a problem.

Well you do if you want a poor looking name.
