INSURANCE - I am insured with no problems because although my tyres are very mildly stretched they are still within (well within actually!) the manufacturers stated limits. Remember, mine are not really even as nearly stretched as this topic was initially speaking about....
So whats your problem? You appear to have tyres fitted within the manufacturers tolerences. You are arguing about a point that does not even apply to you.

Exactly. If the rim size used for a specific tyre falls within the tyre manufacturer's specified range, your tyres are by definition not 'stretched'.

It won't be the first time someone has grassed on here...take SAMOL on this site for example.. he grassed me in to the national trackday association's top dog and managed to nearly get me banned etc etc. Whether it was deserved or not he had no right to get involved, especially when he didnt go to Knockhill or use it every month.
Some people take things too far and stick their noses in where it is not wanted.

What happened? Links?
Yip, that's the guy! Stuck his NHS nose in where it didn't belong and forwarded a video of a trackday that i put up on here and he caused all sorts of sh*te. All i wanted was comments etc but no...he had to take it further.

My point is that someone on here apparently grassed another member to police for having stretched tyres on his car.

I will not post up links as i don't want this dug up again mate! Sorry

If what you were videoed doing was serious enough for you to almost warrant a ban, then I would say he was doing the wider community a favour getting an allegedly dangerous person off the track day scene.

Using a word like "grass" simply helps identify the demographic you no doubt belong to.

Having a genuine WTF moment here. Are you genuinely too obtuse to make any distinction between modifying while keeping to accepted engineering standards, and doing something that is blatantly against the recommendation of the manufacturer of the safety critical parts you are using because you and your peers have decided it 'looks better'?

If a MX-5 or TVR owner would come on here saying that they'd slammed their car to the deck beyond what any suspension manufacturer would stand for, they'd be called a bl00dy idiot, for good reason. As it is, examples of these are few and far between simply because most have a little common sense - FFS the most common 'mod' on recent TVRs is replacing the standard alloys that are the same width front and rear for different sized tyres which is less than optimal and purely done for financial/logistical reasons , with ones in 'staggered' widths that are better suited to the std tyre sizes!
Sorry - should have made it clearer. Was talking more about general approach rather than specifics.

I'm no fan of extreme tyre stretching, hell, apart from tinted windows which are needed on a car with black leather parked in hot sun, my car is stock as a rock outside.

There is a certain mentality that a set of coilovers and a cat back on an MX5 is fine. On a 106/Saxo/whatever that same mod is just chavtastic. Which irks me.

Wouldn't want to mount a 195 tyre on anything wider than a 7" rim, on a 7.5" at a stretch (sorry) if 55 or higher profile. As per below, check with the tyre manufacturer. smile

Would it be too blatantly obvious to suggest that you check what the manufacturer says, instead of asking a forum?

Why would you bring up something like that Honda? It would appear from the replies (the video has been removed) that you were driving like a tt and half of PH wouldn't want to be anywhere near you on a track

Top work on outing yourself though, I shall keep an eye out for your name on any runs I intend going on to ensure you don't

fk me, that driving's so poor I'm almost impressed by the lack of talent. It's almost so bad that it's a talent in itself!

If there is a time and place for such driving I'd suggest it's in a car with a full rollcage and racing harness, or preferably banger racing where they can take the risk amongst like minded individuals.

God look at the bling watch!

Do you reckon he learnt to drive from watching F+F? I', also not sure but I suspect from the speed his left hand kept shooting down from the wheel on the corners he was actually using the handbrake.

It's videos like that which make me very very picky on the trackdays I visit, usually avoiding public track days like the plague as you pull up and see the battered chav mobiles lined up like a destruction derby, was he actually nudging that red Cavalier??

top marks on commitment, i'm sure with some enthusiasm reigned in the chap could be a good driver

has proper put me off the idea of taking anything to a trackday i'd expect to return home in mind, i don't think that level of commitment should be exercised on a public trackday, not that i've ever been to one!

anyway, more crazy tyre stretching:

On what appear to be banded wheels as well. Congratulatoins that man for taking gold, silver and bronze in the retard olympics! thumbup

I've got to say, as an owner and enthusiast of an old Golf, this whole dub scene thing is pissing me off now, stretched tyres an' all. A few years ago when you drove past another clean or modified vw you'd get a friendly wave. Now it seems everyone who used to 'cruise' around in a Corsa or Saxo has taken to buying Performance VW and trying to replicate (read 'copy') anything that they see at the shows.

Roll on the next fad.
