Where's R129SL when you need him?

I dimly recall he's spent sixty-odd £k running it to date - including fuel in fairness.

2000 DHP in Amethyst Pearl/black lthr wink Fabulous.
Timing belt replacement stickers.... did that car do 62k in 19 months?!
Yes . I had to look twice at that myself when I first got it but the service history and old mots confirm it. . The car and driver must have been in their element during that time. I cant think of a better way to munch those miles. It's a shame I cant post a link

There's hope for me yet then! Especially now the climate control fan seems to be making a funny noise. Here comes the bork!

Chaps,

Saab Aero update.
Lisbeth won't start. Turns over cleanly, but I suspect zero spark. My money is on either the crank position sensor or the DIC. I'm hoping the former.

Anything else I may have missed?

Edit: update. Got a mechanic to come take a look. Damn thing fired up first time. Grrrrr

Coil pack on the blink? If so, it's an easy (2 minute!) swap, although the coil pack is IRO £150-200ish, from memory...
Did it fail to start whilst the engine was hot but started when it had cooled? Classic symptom of CPS apparently.
Wouldn't start cold either. Then started twice in a row.
It in the shop now. I suspect we'll change the CPS and go from there.

Give yourself a few years jonny and you'll trade yourself up into something very shiny indeed - unless you piss it up against the wall hehe

Haha perhaps if I was more single minded about it. Would be nice but life gets in the way too...

When the DI cassettes go, you do tend to get an 'electrical' burning smell under the bonnet.
CPS are common failures after 4-5 years though. I found that DI cassettes would last a similar time too. I changed mine and kept the old one as a spare etc. IF it is the DI , ensure the garage use the right grease around the contacts when fitting new one.

Appreciated. The tame mechanic is ex Saab, so Lisbeth is in good hands (yes, we name all our cars).

That is glorious but 330 miles from me!!!

ps. Why the winky?
I am just a little wary when the description is "good condition"......
It may be fine but would warrant careful investigation.
Over 300 miles from me too!

Mine is 7 years old in October. The last owner had a new DI cassette, CPS and throttle body fitted in January to cure a misfire and then promptly traded it in against a new Hyundai in February! He either knows something I don't or he'd completely lost faith with the Swedish barge.

I'm guessing you placed the Autotrader ad you were thinking of and achieved a higher price than you would have done on PH?

Why, because people made up stories and attributed them to me years later? wink

I'll take the compliment though!

Exactly.

I did also put on front tyres in the interim. I actually had a viewer from the PH ad (a rarity) which I had mistakenly left at the old price after putting up the AT one. Would have honoured the £2950 he saw it at but he never phoned back the next day. Feel confident everyone got a good deal, the next cheapest facelift Aero that I saw on AT was £4k.

Good bit of info on the advertising tactics, I'm loathe to give Autotrader my money nowadays, glad you got a result out of them smile

I'm surprised to hear that PH is yielding less viewings than AT, I'm loathe to give my money to AT these days...

I've found its been the way with pretty much everything. I reckon there are actually few cars more mundane than a 911 or M3 where PH would be beneficial.
