Took the missus over to the local MINI dealer in our old Boxster so she could test drive the new F56 JCW a couple of years ago.

Young sales guy saw us pull up and when we went in turned round and said "that's a lovely 911 you've got there". All credibility lost so after the test drive was done we made our excuses and left. She ended up buying a new Cayman.

an actual image of a porsche 917 looks like a space ship, let alone a silhouette. Possibly being a bit unfair to the non-petrolhead there.

So the fact that a kid confused car a for car b when you were shopping for car c made you buy car d? Interesting logic.

Yeah, don't get that, especially when you consider that a 986 is virtually indistinguishable from a 911 from the front.

assuming car sales people have any credibility was your first error. Going shopping for a mini in the first place when you could have bought a new cayman was your second. I am sure what really happened, if anything is real in this story, is that you both just realised you didn't want the Mini, nothing to do with an initial comment he made ages previously which had no bearing on anything other than your nagging self-conciousness that people think you drive a pedal car version of a 911!

i feel this is getting dangerously close to a debate on torque. Again.
I didn' want to say my 300c CRD had 420n/m of torque and get embroiled in an argument with a guy in a Hosea civic, haha

Apart from a 0-60 in 5 seconds and 320bhp from a Merc V6 turbo diesel and 155 mph top speed like most European cars, oh and 45-49mpg, I'm bowing out safe in the knowledge I am a true petrol head as I own an Alfasud and many other Alfa Romeos over the years. That's the Jeremy Clarkson benchmark for being a true undisputed petrolhead lol

He mistook a car that pretty much has a 911 front end on it for a 911? No idea how that happened, eh?

None petrolheads who tell you they're getting a litre bike to show off but end up with a 600. 600's are by any standard very fast, so I don't see the reason why they do this.

Also, people who say 'gixxer', as in jick-sah. It's an awful nickname that continues to be associated with 'the wrong sort' even these days.

That was exactly my thought. Quoting performance figures from the V8 for the diesel. Didn't even get the BHP of the diesel correct. Even remapped to the BHP he stated it still wouldn't hit those performance figures

Massive Petrolhead Fail that was bound to be found out quickly

Yep! very often until one has got a chance of having a look at the side of the car, it can be quite difficult to determine whether an approaching Porsche, or one some distance in front is a 911 or a Cayman/Boxster, they are very similar in size and height. Especially for those who just see a Porsche as a Porsche.

The 986 Boxster and 996 shaped 911 are virtually identical from the B pillar forwards.

What's with 1s difference in 0-60 between different trim levels there? Surely there can't be that much in it, given they're all the same power and transmission.

as long as it's not a turbo, or a carrera from 2002+ (there may be others but i'm only so much of a geek)

Must be different down here, but not noticed this one

I'm not a yobbo rider and don't associate the 'Jick-sah' statement with yobs (if this is what you mean by the wrong sort?). What does upset me is when people pronounce it with a hard G as in gallstones, rather than a J sound as in jaffa cakes. Those are the non-pistonheads spouting off like they are.

Looking at your bike inventory, it's probably jealousy biggrin, like I am of your roads up there.
