Yeah, custom options like de-chrome. That'll be the standard fit parts for all sport models then?

Whilst looking for a cheap small auto, I happened upon this - I can't believe the amount of car you get for your money!

Its true.

And the best bit is that car isn't even especially cheap for what it is. Barely a grand more gets you into an MY05 S350/S500. (02 was well within MB's bad period).

God help me I could be well tempted with that. What's the reflection on the rear wing, picture 4?

I think it's the girl that's just escaped from the boot and is now on the run...

Doesn't seem cheap, I bought (stole biggrin) mine for £1100

Original post when I got it...

Picked this up last week, for the grand sum of £1100, its a 2000 S430, 3 owners, full Tony Purslow (Mercedes) history, 4 matching nearly new Bridgestones (rare on cars this price!) everything works, MOT'd till March 2014 and even had a bit of tax on it.

So there must be a downside? Well apart from the (usual) slight bubbling on the front wings, there really doesn't seem to be a downside, well if your going to be picky the front wheels could probably do with a refurb.

Its had all the likely failure components replaced, at considerable expense if the invoices are anything to go by, including the complete airmatic suspension system!

Thoughts so far on the car, an absolute bargain, drives superbly, even averaged 29 mpg on a run to Kent over the weekend, not quite as engaging to drive as my E39, but that was to be expected.

Still in 2 minds whether to sell it, really could do with an estate for the dog, and keep the the BMW 540, or sell the beemer and keep the Merc, either way one needs to go to make way for an estate - decisions decisions!

Any way a couple of pics.

All I've spent on it is new set of tyres and an MOT the it sailed through with no advisories, been absolutely faultless for just over a year now, I do want to sell it as I still fancy an L322 RR, and with 4 other cars (wife's Saab 9-3 convertible & Focus plus my 928 and E30 Touring with a 3.5 M30 lump) I just don't have the room for another one, but (loathed as I am to admit it) I think I would miss it when it was gone, I've never been a Merc fan, as most of my cars have been BMWs of one flavour or another, but it really is a comfy place to be when the miles need covering with little fuss, more so than any of the various 7 series I've owned, Maybe its an age thing (mine not the cars!)

80,000 miles!!! Thats not even run in!

The seats look hardly sat in. If I wasn't in the market for a S124 and wanted to run my own limo service, I'd be on that like a tramp on hot chips.

Gravel notwithstanding, a curious choice of pictures, but this will probably find some love here.

Strong money at 151k. That said it's a nicely specced car - even incl hardtop stand and looks the part.

Been away on a truly dreadful holiday (so bad we jacked it in after three nights: never has home seemed so nice). But at least the transport was top notch. The new-to-me period roof rack held the bikes and the (very sad) colour-coded roof box firm at the ton, though the mpg was a little down on usual.

Do any of you barge owners find that you get used to having a lovely barge you take it for granted? I'm currently sat in a 1.2 corsa 2008 on a nearly 300 mile trip to North Wales and, the differences between it and my E65 are quite substantial.

The corsa is a fine car for what it's for but it's more noisy, cramped, less comfortable and much, much slower than the 745i!! Although it's harsh to compare, one can't help but do so. As a car to get you from A to B it's absolutely fine though but being in it has made me realise just HOW GOOD the 7 Series is at being a barge, it really is absolutely mega. Yet I still yearn for a V12.....

Im not alone in thinking this, am I?

No, you are not Ross.
Every week (bar this week when I have been on holiday in the stunning Lake District) I go to the lovely and welcoming Northern Ireland from Sunday to Thursday and have a hire car each time.
I can say without question, all of them are not a patch on my ageing but still excellent Saab 9-5 Aero estate.

I had the horror of a Ford Ka last time (usual hire company fully booked out so had to use Hertz and that was all they could give me!).
If you think the Corsa is noisy cramped and less comfortable....
I am sure there must be a worse car for sale, but I hope I never have to drive it!

It made me appreciate some of the (many) things I have had (although not the Insignia which is atrocious!).
It also shows that if you are smart enough to open your mind, what you can buy for the same money as even a 1yr old Ka is comical in comparison.

No, but I'd find it hard to be in that situation - if the 745i was out of action did you not consider renting something more appropriate for the trip?

Funnily enough "the first thing you might notice is the rear bumper" - er, no it wasn't. This should be in thread budget looking like that - £19k!!

Youre not alone, drive my Volvo v70 daily, although it being a few years younger then the 750 it's noisy, slow, feels badly built (but being a Volvo it isn't really) and i drove my mums husbands new Lexus CT200 yesterday and that was, well, very qiuet in town being a hybrid and all, and it felt tight being brand new but it still felt cheap inside compared to the "leather everywhere" e38. Drive my friends e93 330d convertible every now and then aswell and thats cramped, harsh riding and noicy, torque'ish being a diesel tho, but it's still a diesel....

Never driven a E65 but I can imagine that they feel alot more modern then the E38. The older one is still the better looking one imo, but I wouldn't turn down a facelift v12 760 either. Get a V12, it's fanfarkingtastic, I love mine even though I know it's gonna cost me an arm and a leg to keep it running and looking pretty. Don't care biggrin

Surely the guy has accidentally typed in too many 9's, it can't be more than £1999, can it?? It sounds horrendous, mucked around with, not pictured as it actually is now, and with those awful wheels! hurl

See, I look at that another way. Around 9k a year seems to me to be a healthy mileage. It's been well used and regularly used; that to me is a good thing.
