That's a good call about the battery cut off actually! I'm guessing that's going to be far less problematic than disconnecting the battery?
If you use the battery charger you mentioned, there's no need to disconnect the battery - the charger can be left connected whenever the car is parked up (or have I missed something and it's being disconnected for another reason?). Stegel said:

Sorry to hear about your woes but for my money Ross, you should flog it.
1. It's only going to sit there, losing and costing money.
2. It's easily replaced.
3. When you come back to driving you should have something to look forward to. That something should be a new barge.
4. You probably need a V12 next time

Back at home now and saw the E65 again! Matt has my charger so when I'm discharged I'll see what I can come up with. The charger is quite a big one I'm not sure if it'll fit under the bonnet, but I'll have to see! I'd rather not spend more money on a charger if I can avoid it!
Not having a garage is a pain! I'll have to see what I can work out because obviously I don't want the extension lead or charger getting wet! And I don't want to remove the battery either.

Hope you had a nice time at home, re the e65 remember there is a battery 'cutoff' switch in the boot. That combined with a solar trickle charger should solve any battery issues. The e65 battery isn't cheap, think I paid around £150 for the battery from memory then it needs to be 'programmed' to the the car. So can be quite expensive.

If you were going down the solar trickle charger route. Could you not connect it to the battery in the boot and have the actual panel\charger in the cabin connected via the ski hatch (I'm sure it has one)
Hope you decide to keep it, 6months\1 year off little use is not a really a long time in the big picture. Also give you something to focus on during your recovery. If you were to sell and going back to looking at replacing it with something else around the 5k mark you could find yourself back to square one regards spending to get it where you want it. That in itself dwarfs a years tax, insurance and service on the e65.
Agree. Keep the car. It's had so much spends to be 'right' over and above any normal barge that you'll pick up on the used market that is worth keeping to take advantage of. 12 months is nowt really. I went travelling for 6 months when I had my Bora, just parked it in my folks garage and jump started it when I got back, no worries. These days I'm more knowledgeable so I'd put it on a trickle or solar charger but that's about it. You can worry too much.

Whilst the prospect of 5 litre V10 is tempting, it's also interesting to note that for what was remarked (at the time) as an incredible engine:- Has about the same power as the current generation 3 litre twin-turbo diesels
- The car is slower than contemporary big V8 petrols

First time posting, long time reading and wondering "what if...".
Do either of these count as good ideas, or terrible ideas?
cl500
Nice looking cl500 to my newbie eyes. Overpriced and/or over scary money pit?
e320
Sadly preface lift e320, bit too spendy?
That CL looks stunning for the money - a proper bargain barge (no comment on the money pit aspect though!)Do either of these count as good ideas, or terrible ideas?

Almost £7k seems strong for this C36 - are they any good (last bespoke AMG engine etc)?

Shame it's only seen a service twice in the last decade. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C538338
Decided best course of action is to keep the barge running. It'll cost a fair bit but I think it'll be easier.
When it gets used I'll make sure it's for a good 20-30 miles motorw run. How often should I do this.... Once a week?
I can still nip out once a week and plug my charger on it for a large part of the day.
